MotorTrend rates Focus and Fiesta 3 stars out of 5

The comment under the Fiesta was "Needs more party, plus a new transmission", and the comment under the Focus was "Plenty of flash, not enough substance."

WTH???

I'd be more upset if the almighty Accord didn't fall short of the Fusion, and the bland Civic had more than one star on the Focus. By comparison, the entire GM car lineup had only 5 cars with at least a 3 star rating. Both Buicks, the Caddy CTS, the Vette, and the Volt. Only the new Charger got more than 3 stars for Chrysler.

Anyway, I thought I'd share that depressing account.

I'd like to hear what some of the 2012 owners have to say. Do you think the customer complaints about the Powershift is hurting the Focus/Fiesta? Do any of you think that the complaints are warranted, or is this just a case of people not accepting the different feel of new technology?

I think the transmission is fine. It definitely smooths out over time. I haven't had any issues..

Just past 1800 km on my Ti.. No complaints about the transmission or engine. It noticeably got smoother and learned my style in the past month since I bought it.

Posted via FF Mobile What is this their yearly buyers guide? Seriously something must of happened between them and Ford. Theyve been giving them a lot of hate. Btw Fiesta is coming with a sport apperence package for 2012, no idea of price but it looks good. For those wanting no chrome but all the high end goodies this package is for you.

Yes, 2012-2013 New Cars edition. I've read some of their write-ups on the Fords, and none of it is pretty. What it boils down to, IMO, is that Ford is throwing all this new tech at people in one package from Sync, MFT, to a dry-type DCT and DI. It's too much for some people- including magazine writers- to take in at once. Other DCTs don't have these sort of complaints, yet nobody else (that I know of) has the dry-type DCT that Ford got engineering kudos for while it was in development. Likewise, for some reason people readily accept the extra noise of a DI engine in other makers, but in an American maker like Ford- it sound bad. I've seen this before with the noisy Dtec. If it was a Nissan, that would be the sewing machine sound of high tech excellence, but in a Ford- it's screwed up.

I do have to agree with them about the Fiesta's back seat space though. I felt like I was riding in an early 80's Corolla. It would be a good car for teenagers, but the Fit is a more utilitarian choice in that segment. If it came in a 3dr, I might get one for DD use, and just remove the back seat.

Something tells me they are accepting more "advertising" money from the foreign manufacturers again... Pulling a consumer reports...

I swear, if Ford hid the badge and told them its a new Hyundai or Toyota, they would get amazing reviews. But the second they hear American...

We have 2500km on our Focus Titanium, the transmission is not getting any better, still get the jerky feeling. Wish we had known about it before we bought, I think we would have changed our minds about buying the Focus.

i used to recieved MT in the past, but i stop my memebership because i got sick of their stupid reviews and their columns, if isnt a honda or bmw isnt good enough for motor trend, it was always the same chit with them. The last thing i remember reading was about the SUVs where they got as a winner the cayenne turbo that was valued at 100k or so in a comparison with the edge, chevys suv and subarus.

You should read the letters from others subscribers that complain about the stupid comparison tests.
