Just for fun

So I've been toying with the idea of spending $800-1500 and buying a beat to heck old car off ebay. I would love to get some decent beat up car, strip it out, and see what we can do with it, learn to race on it without risking my Focus, things like that. So I found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...rue#vi-content

One runs and the other is strictly for parts. $1000 for both if I understand correctly, someone please let me know if I'm wrong. I'm at a golden period of my life where for these few months I have no bills so this caught my eye. :)

IMHO... I would get them and restore it. I would not use that as a car to learn to race in. I think you need to get an old fiesta or something like that.

Be warned, that generation of the XJ's where notorious for electrical problems ... really though Jaguars in general are electrical nightmares.

I'd keep looking personally.

... and I think I have an original brochure for that car around here somewhere.

Yea I knew that one, I realized these are in Maine....lol. Not gonna be an option now :). Though making these look like new would be amazing. IMO this car is one of the most gorgeous cars I've ever seen.

I'll agree with that.
The few I've driven I liked. Very comfortable car.

Here are a few that should be close to Cali ... I used SF's zip (94005) and searched within 200 miles

Of them, the Townsman would be worth the most if it's correctly restored.
The Olds and Pontiac are great cruisers.
The Dodge P/U is just hard to find.
The Camaro is just a Camaro. 70-72 are more highly prized IMO.
The Benz, I'm thinking it'd be real fun with a LS swap.

Those are some awesome finds! I love ebaying things like that. I wish I knew enough about cars to fix up something and restore it. I loooove the Benz and Pontiac.

If I wanted something to turn into a track car for very cheap, something I could strip out and run without a very in depth effort, what would be a good starting point? And maybe not even track, just something that stripped could be a great little car to learn the finer points of driving in?

I'd go for it! Restore it though. Not beat it as a race car. Funny thing is. I'll be gong by Corinth ME tomorrow. Wish I had time to stop and look for you! Good luck with your decision.

Toyota MR2 (W10 or W20), Mazda RX-7 (FB or FC), Civic CRX or Si.

Def stay away, far away, from any vintage Jag unless you enjoy constant service. The electrical systems on pre-Ford Jaguars (and other early British cars) are the stuff of legend and the source of many jokes, such as this one:
