SE, SEL listing the differences.

Color me totally confused (Pun intended- you'll see why)

I went to the dealer today 100% convinced I wanted him to find a silver SEL 300a hatchback.

Thing is- it's hard to find- and Galpin (The biggest Ford dealer in America) didn't even have an SEL's to show me

But they are searching for one.

Now, I am reading that the SEL has gold trim inside instead of silver? That's odd. And also that it cannot get Sirius radio unless you move up to the MFT- which I really don't want. Is that correct?

So now I'm back to thinking about the SE (Which has the silver trim as well as the non MFT sirius radio) BUT it doesn't have climate control- which I would really like.

It's just frustrating that the SEL has the same base radio as the SE- is supposed to be a higher model- but you can't get Sirius in it- and it has an uglier (goldish) trim that can't be changed.

So now I'm torn:
-SEL with the climate control but no Sirius and gold trim
-SE with sport- gives me the sirius and trim but no climate control and not sure I like the narrower sports seats or color
- Titanium which gives me climate control but also forces me into the MFT and a rougher ride with bigger tires and suspension

Anyone in a similar situation? Or those with any of these models have any advice?

Sirius isn't worth the money anyway. I've got the 6 month sirius trial on my SE and frankly I am completely unimpressed. Its not nearly worth the $12 a month you would have to pay once the free trial is over.

Posted via FF Mobile The SEL trim isnt like sparkling popping gold, its much more subdued, you need to see it in person, its not bad enough to make you turn away from an SEL...or at least it shouldnt. Are there any other options you want?

Mainly- I like the regular non sport seats, climate control, Sirius, no MFT, Alloy Wheels.

Seems like there is no combo of all of those. If I can ever find a SEL at a dealership I'll take a look. And guess I'd have to say goodbye to Sirius

The gold actually looks good. Unfortunately the gear shift, steering wheel, and door pulls are silver, but it still works. With a little time, it should be relatively easy to replace with many different colors - ebay to the rescue. Either Ford is purposely not producing SEL's or they sell before delivery. It took weeks for me to find anything within my tiny state, Texas. Of course dealers have a bunch of optioned up SE's (majority sedans), which can cost more than a base SEL.

Going on that- what are the differences between an SE with the entertainment group 203a and a base model SEL? It's really hard to find these online that really lays it out specifically. Again I want to compare the SE 203a with the SEL. I don't want to go sports pack on the SE cause the seats I think are really ugly.

Here is what I have- please add to it or let me know if I'm wrong:

Price: (Based on X-plan) SEL base model - $21,002 SE 203A = $20,358

- Trim: Gold trim on SEL - Silver on SE
- Front center arm rest- in pictures the SEL looks bigger/ longer- is that right? Also looks like SEL cup holders are horizontal and thus an extra storage area for change?
- Steering Wheel- SEL: Leather wrapped steering wheel - SE -not wrapped
- Seats- SE: (Charcoal) looks a little more two tone black and light grey
SEL: more pure black ? (Again only going by pictures on ford.com)
- Radio- they look the same but SEL does NOT have Sirius. SE does.
- Side mirrors: SEL has turn signals on the side mirrors. SE does not
- Ambient lighting. SEL- has SE - does not
- Climate control SEL- dual zone electronic climate control. SE- manual climate control
- Wheels: SEL- Alloy SE- Steel
- Brakes: SEL: Front and rear disc brakes. SE: Front disc Rear- drum

From Ford site- although I'm thinking this is not the SE with the 203 package as the door pulls and register also adds the metallic trim but Ford site doesn't show this. And this also shows the SE with MFT. As you can see- Ford does not make this easy to really understand the differences of all the car choices.

From your numbers above the difference is $600, and look at what is missing. Alloy wheels and disc brakes are a must have imo. You can get those on an SE with the sports package ($600 more with x-plan). That still leaves the SE without auto climate, ambient lighting, mirror turn signals, and (you forgot) chrome window trim. The SEL with probably retain more value later because of the 'luxury' that the extra L brings.

The entire center console is different. Moving to the SEL gives you a MUCH more luxurious interior. I've played with both and own a Titanium, the difference is immediate.

I'm almost positive you can get Sirius on the standard radio on the SEL however MFT is pretty awesome and I wouldn't get rid of it for anything.

Thanks- I do want a better interior that's for sure. Again I have no idea as I can't find an SEL to test out- ha.

And no, there are several threads on here- SIRIUS cannot be had on the standard radio on the SEL only the MFT. It's a weird option Ford messed up on? Or forces on SEL owners.

I played with MFT- and I am a HUGE gadget nerd- but not really seeing what it offers. Seems like simply a 3rd way to control things like temperature and radio. What am I missing that it offers that the car wouldn't have thru the smaller 3.5 and sync? Other than wall paper which is cool! Ha
