st or svt?

Alright my dad and I are having an argument between what someone would buy. An 05-07 st or an svt. He doesn't believe the st isn't as capable as an svt and finds it weird that an st costs more than an svt so I need to know. If you had a choice between an st and an svt what would you choose?

i personally like the SVT. especially the 6 spd. the ST is awesome for NA, the SVT is awesome for boosted. i think SVT parts may be a bit cheaper than ST parts. but not sure. i have the SVT and i love it. ur best input will be from people that have both.

i have also seen 34.5 mpg in my svt and i kill in autocross cause you can hit 48 mph in 1st cause of the gear ratios. but totally a preference thing. i think the SVT's interior is nicer in smoe aspects as well. plus they made fewer SVT's.

i'm biased, but you can see where i'm going

They say the ST motor is a more capable motor and responds better to bolt ons, plus at this point why would you buy a car that is 7 years old. I have nothing against the SVT, i love them, but the ST is a very capable rival.

the car is more capable for NA. have you seen any 500+ whp duratecs? no. even 400 whp, not really. thats what i said. they respond better to NA mods, but for boost, no.

I've had both. Here is my take on it.

Things I miss about the SVT:
The Recaro Seats
having an SVT car, (carries a higher name)
the brakes
Having a hatchback

Thinks I like better about the ST:
Already faster with about $400 in mods then my SVT was.
The 5speed, (better for commuting, and the SVT trans has weird gearing IMO.)
Newer so in better shape overall, (that one depends on car to car tho)
More of a sleeper. (With a few more mods it would be seriously quick, and looks like a normal car.)

If you plan to go FI, I'd go SVT as they can handle more power on stock internals.

If you are just doing light mods / bolt ons, the ST is where its at, And intake and BSD and you're quicker than the SVT, had header and exhaust and tune and you walk away quickly. Cams, and you're running away.

@Brad: There are some high horsepower Dtecs out there, fewer because it hasn't been around as long as the Zetec block. I honestly think more people don't go FI with these cars because you can get 200whp and a lot of torque by doing a little at a time.

ST's will demand more money on average because they are newer, I would suspect.

Go to the other site and there are tons, these are all from the duratec F/I motivation thread (275whp and up):

HuntinCooter 301whp
Street Tuner Challenge 2008 Ford Focus by Focus Sport: 396whp
paulhaskew: 322whp <--- on max 14psi...
Clint: 301whp <--- 15psi
FSWERKS 2009 SEMA Focus: 381whp
ClintB#1: 313whp
GFXjamie: 278whp <--- 2.0L on 12-13psi

None of these are the insane zetec builds we see running crazy psi...
