Ethanol subsidies are gone.... Finally

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/06/17/s...nol-subsidies/

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000..._WSJ_US_News_5

Great news for Americans. All but farmers that is. I cant wait to see that 10% ethanol pollution come out of our cars. There was no need to subsidize the staff any longer. Only reason it was still being subsidized was strong lobbying by farmers.

No lie, it was killing tequila production. Farmers who normally grew agave were switching to corn to take advantage of this. Because of that, tequila was going to become very rare.

Also, my gas tank will be happier without the ethanol, thankyouverymuch.

Not likely to have much impact on what we put in our cars.

The problem is not a domestic issue. Id rather something be made abroad if it will not water down a product to the point that it is inefficient as well as cast a inefficient shadow over farming and especially tax payers.

America has some of the largest energy reserves in the world. We are the largest consumers as well. If you want things to be domestic we need to be tapping into more of our natural resources not subsidizing something that does very little at great cost.

Anyways, the trade deficit is on the decline (decreased imports) but in a developed service oriented nation you can expect a trade deficit (Exception Japan but that is for other reasons and they have had stagnant to recession oriented economic growth since the 1990s.)

I believe there is a balance to trade. There are disadvantages to your trade deficit but there are also large advantages. We can consume MUCH more for less cost. In other words, even though we have a trade deficit most of America gets to enjoy a better life. Heck even the poor here are very fortunate.

Thanks for the article. I did jump the gun on assuming that Subsidies were the only thing that impacted ethanol fuel pollution. It's really hard for the common person to know the impact on laws. New will leave out what it wants or point out only the things that it deems important.
The article was thorough in its explanation, now I know a bit more about the issue. Sucks. I would love to see a study to see if we deleted ethanol from our tanks would it cost more? I have my doubts that fuel prices would even move.
