Am I getting ripped off?

I don't actually own a 2010 (11?) Focus SES, but I did rent one while on vacation and I was mightily impressed.

It was black with dark, 17 inch rims that at first glance I thought was really impressive.

...Apparently, so did thieves. I came out of the hotel to this:

Needless to say, I was not happy. I eventually got another vehicle, knowing the rental company - Enterprise - was probably going to come after me for the cost of the rims. Fine, I deserve it for not getting the extra insurance.

This is the bill they sent me:

Kuhmo Solus KH16 215/45R17 87H $120.14x3
Balance $12.89x3
Tire Disposal $1.46x3

OEM Ford TPMS Valve 9L3Z.1A189.A $116.95x2
OEM Ford Wheel AS4Z1007A $611.34x2
OEM Ford Center Cap $13.50x2

Total: $1887.05

As nice as those rims were, I don't see how those rims could possibly be worth $600 each. The absolute most expensive rims on Tirerack.com, Oz, are $261 each.

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...All&sort=Price

Tires I can see them being $120, even though I still think that's a bit high, TPS valves... eh, maybe at the dealership they're that expensive, but I'm sure I could get them cheaper, but there is no way they can bill me $600 per rim. And why are they charging for three tires?

EDIT: I did a search on the model listed for the 'wheel' and got "Brake/Rotor/Drum/Wheel Bearing Wheel Bearing and Seals". Sounds like they're charging me for the entire wheel assembly!

Am I getting ripped off?

That sucks. Did you have locking lugnuts on? I know they can still get through 'em, but it's gotta help somewhat by making the theft process a little longer, right?

That's bs that they are charging you that was nothing you did. And I would refuse to pay for that they rent cat and know what can happen they should come with wheels locks on them!

No lug nuts, I was surprised the rental company didn't put them on the cars.

We went to Boston, but our hotel was in Woburn Massachusetts, which I did not know till recently was not exactly a great place. What's a fair price for those rims?

Unfortunately for you, I'm sure it was worded in the contract to where they can charge you the $1800, and there won't be anything you could have done about it with out taking the full insurance.

Now one thing to check on is your personal insurance for the vehicle you do own at home. If you have full coverage on it, or even depending on the policy, it may cover you for damage to a rental car. I have full coverage through state farm on my 03 focus. My policy covers me full coverage on any car that I rent. This way I don't have to pay for their insurance, and if this were to happen to me, my insurance has to foot the bill.

Fortunately, I recently discovered that my VISA card insures rentals up to the value of the car, so they're paying for everything. However, it's up to a unspecified lifetime amount.

Even if it's not coming out of my pocket, I still feel like I'd rather the insurance company not have to pay for it. Who knows, next time I'll need them they'll look at my record and see me as a liability and deny coverage...
