Driving Tips

I recently took delivery of a titanium focus and I absolutely love it! Everything about the car is perfect. With that said, I am seeking some advice. I have never driven a manual transmission and am having some trouble adjusting to the manual "like" transmission in this car. Don't get me wrong, I love the feel of how the car drives, but at times it just seems like I a doing something wrong. Can anyone who has a new focus give me some suggestions to help smooth out the ride? If the car is jumpy from time to time, am I doing something wrong? Any other suggestions you can give is greatly appreciated!

I found that if you are a little more aggressive from a stop, it will find the gear it wants faster, eliminating the trans from searching or jumping to find a gear. Then even out your speed for the best fuel economy. The other option is to use the Select Shift and control the shifts yourself.

Just to clarify...what do you mean when you say aggressive. I just want to make sure I understand. :D Thanks!

Drive with both hands on the wheel and use smooth, non-jerky but quick movements.

If applying throttle while turning, let the wheel auto-center itself to prevent jerky motion.

Don't apply hard brakes on a curve if you enter it too fast, you're better of concentrating on driving.

I don't mean punch it. What I do is give it some moderate pedal push and dont let up until your in high second or third.

if you are useing the select shift, make sure that you are not shifting down a gear if you are still at a high RPM. If your in third at say 4000 RPM don't try and down shift to second without slowing first. this will lessen the jerkyness while down shifting.

Until they perfect artificial intelligence, I'm sticking with the manual.
Only I know when I want to shift gears. No automatic has ever been able to
think ahead and predict what gear I wanted.
