It takes a while to get really good, I've been driving stick since I got my license 4-5 years ago, and even now I mess up every once in a while.

I've only briefly driven my friends manual truck. Other than that, I've only driven automatic.
I'm going to have to master it quickly though, seeing as I'm hoping to get the ST when it's released.

Find a friend with a cable operated manual transmission. far easier to learn on and you'll benefit from it ... far better engagement feel than crappy hydraulic BS.

Yeah the manuals in 4cyls are a bit tougher than the old big engines...you have to sync the revs and clutch so closely that it can be difficult when learning.

I learned how to do it in Behind the Wheel in high school, I mastered it riding motorcycles...then I perfected it learning to drive semis at work.

When I got my car I almost took it back on the 3rd day, and after a month I was finally getting gears but still shaking my head "no...I'll never ever be able to do this!" Then it took 3 months to get the clutch/revs perfected, then it really took 7-8 to have it down pat. It wasn't until I slogged through my first winter that it really taught me how to do it; learning not to ride the clutch when spinning on ice, starting in 2nd, getting myself unstuck etc. that I *truly* figured out what I am doing and how to do it! Then summer was Perfect and the next winter I was alot better.

Hang in there, man...it's SO worth it!!!

p.s. riding motorcycles are so much more fun when you already have the reflexes of manuals/clutching in your head!
