2012 Honda Civic output at half capacity until fall

The devastating earthquake in Japan couldn't have come at a worse time for Honda. The Japanese automaker was just starting to launch its new Civic for 2012, and the compact car is a major part of the company's portfolio. Any delays or hiccups in the Civic's launch will surely send shockwaves reverberating through Honda's balance sheets.

Sadly, supplies of electronics parts and raw materials from Japan are still hampering automobile production for Honda, even in plants outside its home market. That includes the new 2012 Civic, which is assembled in Greensburg, Indiana and Alliston, Ontario.

I do feel bad for them, even though I never considered the Civic. The car is just a colossal BORE.

That, and some how they seem to make every generation uglier than the one before it. I sipped from the Cool Aid and bought a 7th gen Civic because it was fuel efficient and reliable. It didn't make up for the boredom. I'm thrilled that the new Focus doesn't make me compromise on one to get the other.

I feel bad for them, but somehow I don't think demand will be that high for this car, it's quite ugly.

Only Civic I even have an interest in is the SI. Honda has been around forever in one form or another. They will survive this.

Unless I am mistaken, the US and Canada are the only market now that sell the Civic. It has been discontinued in Japan where the new Fit is immensely more popular and has taken the place of the Civic.

I disagree with some comments here, I say the latest design is the Civic at its best.
I really like how it looks to be totally honest. It looks dignified yet sleek and current.
However the interior is terrible, and the seats don't lower enough for me (6'3) in the drivers seat. I'd rather not be jammed into the ceiling.

Edit:, Also don't be so worried. The new Civic has already sold more then the Focus in my area. I have not seen one Focus on the road, but at least 6 different new Civics, and the Civic got here after the Focus. This latest Civic will do just fine. The price is right, and people buy into brand equity.
