Ordered the 5 speed manual

I ordered the manual (I'm too cheap to spend 1200 more) but did not test drive one. Anybody here driving the shift?

In a review I saw, a lady from L.A. described the manual as "unresponsive"

WTF, how can a shift be unresponsive. Unless you shift like a lady?

Car and Driver reviewed it and loved it. In fact they claimed it's the option you should get over the new 6 speed auto.

OK, I feel much better now.

And I complained loudly to my Ford dealer (actually five Ford dealers) about not having the manual option on the SEL package. But actually, I only wanted the SEL package to get the 10-speaker Sony sound system.

Dear FORD,

Please let us order the Manual tranny on all trim levels. And, let us get the premiun stereo on all trim levels. One more thing, let us order any of the wheels you offer. We are the customers, we should decide what we want, not your marketing people.

Thanks Ford.

Kinda sad, I have no idea why but here in Canada we can order a 5 speed SEL. That's what I got, wish I could have ordered the 18" wheels though.

We ordered a loaded SE manual because the Titanium only came in automatic. I love the reviews that say the only complaints are the 6 speed and the MFT... two things I didn't get :-)

I bought a 5-speed manual SE as well. Same reasons as you, much cheaper and more fun. Clutch and Shifter are fantastic.

The only thing I can say is the car wants more gas to get going from start.

So by "unresponsive" I can say that I did experience that when I first tried to car, because I was used to my manual in my mazda3 with the 2.3L. Just wants a lot more gas to take off, and barely take the clutch out.

How are the pedals set up for heel and toeing? Does the engine freak out trying to blip the throttle while braking (i.e. Toyota owner programming)?

There isn't a manual Focus in all of TX when I checked on Saturday. So annoying to buy a car without test driving it, but I can't see the transmission as being hard to drive.

Champian Ford in Katy lists two 5-speeds, but both are sedans with few options.

I elected to order mine.
