Why are't there forums by car year?

So I'm relatively new here, and I apologize if this has been discussed before.

Why aren't there forums dedicated specifically to the different generations of Foci? I'm sure the older Foci members don't want to have to sift through my 2012 questions, or vice versa. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Tony

I rather like shifting through all generations. It's good seeing what other people are doing with their cars and issues that arise with different generations.

The main reason there are not different forums, though, is probably because until the new generation car came out, all foci where pretty much the same from generation to generation.

Smile

Ok, then there should be a Gen1 and Gen2 area!
As well as a few others.

I think making new forums would split the community. Just my 2 cents from seeing sports and tech boards make new forums, it always splits it up.

Since this is the Ford Focus & General Car Chat Section, I don't really see the need to differentiate it into sub-sections or have separate areas for the two/three generations. In this section, it really doesn't matter which generation you have for most of the threads/topics. I see that there are specific tech sections here for the different drivetrains, so having a 2012-specific tech section may be a good idea.

If I'm hearing you correctly, I wasn't suggesting this forum be divided into subgroups according to generation. Rather, it would be nice to have dedicated forums for specific generations. Virtually every car enthusiast forum I've been a member of has done it this way.

Hey...if people (us) don't want it that way, then that's fine with me. I just thought I'd suggest it.

The moderator team is continuing to monitor posts in all areas of the forum and right now we still feel the current layout is the easiest to navigate without breaking the sections up too much. If at a later date we feel the need to rearrange we will address it at that time. We appreciate the comments and suggestions.

Edit:...got sidetracked and Evan beat me to it.

Well, by that reasoning there shouldn't be an SVT specific forum, but it's kind of necessary. It's not like there isn't a natural split there anyway, for better or worse. I've been thinking since all these brand new owners started showing up that it would be good for them to have their own dedicated place to congregate and share information, because I don't think the rest of us are going to have many truly specific answers to questions or problems.

It's definitely not that I don't want to see what they have to say or segregate them, but the new generation is practically a completely different car and I think deserves it's own sub-forums, and in time will be truly necessary. There are certainly a lot of new owners showing up and I would see it as a significant welcoming gesture to them rather than another wedge between the community, depending on how it's implemented.

I see the matter looks decided for now, but you mods should consider getting some input from the community as to which way this should go.
