Push Button Start...what if the "key"'s batteries die???

can you still get in the car and still start it if the battery in your key fob dies?

Yes, you squeeze the sides of the fob and pop it open and you get your auxiliary key and use that to open your driver's door.

Then you hold your fob up to the side of the steering column where the key would normally go and start your car with brake/button as normal.

Posted via FF Mobile Does your door have a key cylinder? Then you have an actual key.

I don't have my focus yet so it was just a question that someone at work brought up today. Hehe.

I suppose this question should make sense here. Is there supposed to be a cover for where the key sits when it doesn't work? The regular cylinder space is exposed, and there's a pocket for the key to sit in, but it's all white. My guess is that there's supposed to be a gray cover like in the pics. Maybe a visit to the dealer is in store.

Isn't it a passive system, that uses RFID like technology? So the battery in the fob isn't needed for the car to recognize it?

So the concern would be if the car had a dead battery, not the fob (in which case you're not starting it anyhow).

I know VW's have a cover next to the exterior door handle that pops off exposing a place to put the key to unlock the door if the battery in the car dies or the remote quits working so you can still get into the car.

Interesting! So you can't turn the key but once the system knows it's locked in you can push the on button to start the car? If so that makes sense to me!
