Manuals Are Not Better than Automatics, Automatics Are Not Better Than Manuals...

It's a personal preference and what type of transmission a person chooses does not reflect who they are as a person and how they feel or know about cars.

I'm sick and tired of a lot of manual transmission guy's godlike superiority complex because they can operate an extra pedal and stick. Just because someone doesn't drive a manual doesn't mean they're a lazy, fat, dumb, ignorant, car is an appliance, tool of a person. It just means they prefer to not manually shift through the gears.

It doesn't mean they're bad drivers, or that they can't race, or that their cars suck.

TL;DR: People who drive with manual transmissions aren't any better than people who drive with automatic transmissions. Get over yourselves. We all love cars and we should all respect one another no matter what transmission option we prefer.

I also don't think we manual drivers (or myself at least) look down on automatic owners... We just tend to have a personal preference (as you stated) towards liking the extra control and feel of a manual transmission over an automatic. Most of us like them for the added benefit of them being more efficient as well.

I know not all manual drivers think the same of automatic drivers, but on this forum the prevailing opinion/attitude seems to be that automatic drivers suck.

I just dont like autos most of the time because I never really know when they want to shift... I know you can kind of manipulate it some but not like a manual....

Autos are great if you're off roading, or in a lot of stop n go traffic, or towing... Yknow or if you just dont WANT the extra stuff to do. They both have advantages over each other.

Honestly for me it depends where you live, big cities like LA and Boston or Chicago ya Id rather have a automatic especially if its a lot of stop and go traffic. But suburb areas standards are the way to go.

I see that on most forums I'm on. It's the usual "If You can't shift it, You should park it and walk" attitude that gets tiresome.

I drive an auto most of the time I'm on the road, but My car is a manual, and I can't even tell You how many times I wished for a damn auto while sitting in stop and go traffic. That said, I'm happy with My manual transmission every time I want to pass someone and can downshift to do so.

The long and short of it for Me is, I love love LOVE driving. I don't care what makes it go as long as I'm the one making it go. I hate the passenger seat, I belong in the drivers seat, and that is all that matters.

Oh, and to make it perfectly clear, any form of elitism on any FOCUS forum(ok, maybe RSOC dot UK), is just silly.

Doesn't have anything to do with disliking people who drive cars with automatics. I think it's safe to say that most of us just prefer a manual transmission in these sorts of cars. If I could have a inline sequential shifter or paddle shifters I might well choose something besides a traditional manual transmission, I just prefer being able to pick a gear and keep it and change it when I don't.

Also, you already did one of these napolean complex type "automatics are smarter" tirades. I remembered so I searched it and here it is.
The Manual Transmission Lie If you're convinced automatic transmissions are smarter, be secure in your convictions and let it be if you know you're right.

I have two 6-speeds and one 5-speed manual. My daily driver is definatley going to be an automatic. I think with the selectshift you get the best of both worlds.

IMHO if you mainly drive in traffic to/from work, manuals suck balls. Otherwise manuals can be fun.
