2004 Ford Focus

Hello All,

New here and thanks for having me and all your thoughts. Thinking of purchasing for my fiance's daughter a used 2004 Focus Sedan, automatic transmission, 2.3L I4 engine, with 59,000 miles on it from a reliable big car dealer. It is in real nice shape both body and interior. They originally wanted $8525 but I got them down to $7300. Is this a good price? Took it for a test drive and can find no issues with it other than the front windshield wiper switch. Seems when you momentarily pulse the swithch the wiper arm stops in the middle of the windshield. Salesman says this is normal for a 2004? Are there any major issues with this year of vehicle? Anything I shoud be aware of? Thanks for all your input.

if its a fully loaded zts then that seems ok I bought my 04 svt 4 months ago for $7200 with 58,000 miles on it. I know alot of people on here like/prefer the 2.3 its a great motor. There is a ford tsb for the ws wipers, I think its for the relay mine does the same thing I just got used to it.

$7,300 seems to be fairly good. I wouldn't pay too much more than that though. I KBB'd a SE model with 58k miles; alloys, A/C, pw. pl, etc in 'good' condition and 'Private Party' value came out to $7,375.

Thanks for all your replies. Now it doesn't sound like that great a deal especially with what karguy427 posted, although this is a dealer deal and not private party. Just doesn't seem to be that much out there available in the small car gas saver makes and models. The engone on the one that I am thinking of purchasing is a 2.3L I4 16V MPFI DOHC. I just wonder how reliable a vehicle this 2004 Focus is? Do they hold up? Do they make it to say 150K miles? What do you think? Thanks.

If you can get the dealer to include tax, title and licensing fees for $7,300 I would take it.

the 2.3 is a great engine also rare to find in the Focus. As for 150,000 miles theres always a lemen out there but I don't think you'll have any problems going over that the engine runs a timing chain instead of a timing belt so no maintance needed there.I have a 06 with 105,550miles with no issues.I 'd say go for it .The Focus are very easy cars to drive they handle well and do good in winter weather.

If it's got the 2.3, I'd grab it. It's what I had in my '03, and my daughter has one in her '04. Great engine.

Thanks for all your input everyone. Yes the 2004 Focus does have a pretty good ride and seems to handle quite well. We did drive a 2004 Hyundai Elantra with the same amout of miles on it and it did not ride well (vey mushy suspension) and seemed quite junky. We are going to go for the Focus. Thanks again.

I love that engine. The power is excellent compared to the other engines offered (at least with a manual transmission). MPGs do suffer however, you'll be getting mid to low 20s around town and probably 30 max on the highway.
