First time ford owner...

Hey y'all,

About 2 weeks ago I picked up a 2012 Kona Blue SE Sport! From the moment we first saw this thing on the lot my fiance and I were blown away. Ford has come a long way and from a former GM apologist, I'm definitely liking the Blue Oval.

This car is a replacement for my 2007 Tacoma. I loved that truck to death, but commuting 60-70 miles a day was killing my wallet. This is the first car I've ever owned and I wanted to make sure this is something I'm going to have fun with. Its everything I wanted, except for the manual transmission (didn't want to wait 6-8 weeks so i can save $$$ now) and its been great...except for one time.

I had to take it back to the shop after about 4 days and 330 miles. When getting in the car and backing out of a convenience store, I threw it into drive, hit the gas, and the engine started revving as if i held the clutch in while pressing the gas. It jumped into gear and the car lunged forward and then a few more bouts of high revving and slamming into gear. Eventually the jerking stopped and the engine threw a code. Frustrated, that afternoon I took it to ford. Explained to the gentleman that I had just got it that monday (this was thursday morning) and i'm baffled. I got a rental (paid by ford) and the next day i got a call that it was ready. The service manager explained they called ford directly and ford had them walk through some trouble shooting and reset the computer and all worked fine.

Now here I am at just over 1k miles and I'm loving this car. I'm still a little untrusting with the transmission. I've never liked autos and I'm definitely cautious with it. I'm still not the biggest fan of the "double clutch" system, but I'm sure it'll grow on me. Other than that, the car feels smooth as ice on the highway, it looks great, and it puts a smile on my face when I'm zipping in and out of traffic.

Anyways, thanks for reading the novel!

B

P.S. Pics to come soon!

Welcome to the Ford Family and Focus Fanatics! I must say, that "hiccup" Your Focus had does not sound very promising to Me, here's hoping it turns out to be a one time occurrence.

Oh, and I guess I'll be the one to say it, because someone else will soon enough: Needs drop and tint.

Wow, apart from it not being a hatch that's almost the exact Focus I want! It looks amazing.

Thanks for the pics, and congratulations! It's possible that the dealer didn't do the prep and reset the systems before releasing the car. Enjoy it!!!

I have the same exact transmission in the Fiesta, with 5K miles and no troubles. I never just "throw it into drive and hit the gas" however. It is "throttle by wire" and you just drive those different than the traditional gas pedals too. It always responds when i need more acceleration with getting "into the pedal", but I don't drive it "abruptly" if that makes any sense. All small 4 cylinder cars and autos have always been a different sort of driving experience than a manual clutch, but this is the best so far. Take it easy and let it 'learn' your driving style and see if it never happens again, but I'd refrain from the abrupt "hit the gas" type scenarios. You don't really do that with a manual either, even launching at a dragstrip there is a lot of clutch slipping (BURNING) that goes with that type of driving. It's just you in control of how it launches, this is a computer. Good luck.

I like those wheels, to bad they don't offer them at 17 inches.
