No, if I was looking for a commuter car without any fun... why not just buy the more comfortable and better looking Chevy cruse diesel at the same price?
i'm boycotting GM and Chrysler. Ford also has more experience with small diesels.

90% of my mileage is in town. The torque and fuel mileage would make it worthwhile. I'm into an age window where the next vehicle could be my last. Quiet, rational driving would pay off for years to come when I'm in no hurry to get anywhere.

I know that in the US there are a lot of misconceptions about diesels. but they can be quite the power houses especially in the torque range.
Also ecu tuning is big in the EU. I have 320nm of torque which is about 236 pound foot. not bad for 1.6 engine.

Wonder how good the "real world" mileage might be...

My current Focus gets high 30's on the road, won't quite get 30 in mixed driving around town.

Back when VW brought in the first diesel Rabbits, and they got 50 on the road, folks would crank LOTS of miles on them 'cause it was cheap to do so. I've heard current diesels do that well, even if not RATED that high - It'd be nice not to calculate fuel costs B4 considering every trip....

Any vehicle could be one's last. Hell, my next slice of apple pie could be my last!

Yea, but he mentioned it'd be his last vechicle, wouldn't you want a v/8 grunt car for your last one? I would.
