whats wrong with being a ricer?

if someone is fixing their car just for show whats wrong with that and why is that being a ricer. there may be alot of people who are mostly into modding their cars for the looks and not performance. also we have those who do both performance and everything else that makes them look rice. so someone please explain what the problem with being a ricer is

I said it before and I'll say it again, it's your car, your money, do whatever you want. Unless they are paying for it, its none of their business. Some poeple just like to run their mouth when its not wanted.

It has mostly to do with attitude. "Like ya my car is soooooo cool. I have spinner hubcaps and a wing, and neon, and a fart can. My car is so much faster now" kind of attitude. I guess it is the show off factor, when most really don't give a crap, or when the cars are so distastefully done. Read some of the threads here making fun of things on ebay for example, the electronic blow off valve sound simulator. simulated intercooler to mount in your grill. Same kind of mentality that I grew up around in the 1970's that people thought it was cool to put long shackles on the rear leaf springs to jack the car up and put N-50-15 tires on the back (any other old folk here remember that tire numbering system?) and still have a 4 door, inline six baby blue or yellow sedan. But even that wasn't as in your face as the current ricers.(4 doors are a lot more tastefully done from the factory now... or am I really getting that old?)The sad part to me is the people doing this actually think there cars are meaningful or nice. That is my perspective.

well, for me, i love cars and always have, work on them to pay off bills and when i have time, i'm usually talking about cars or learning more. i call people ricers that have cars that r all show/no go to an extent, since cars were being modified, there was metal fabrication, molded fenders and moldings, paint matched, shaved antenna's and handles...and if all thats done with a molded body kit, i have absolutely no problem, i do have problems with a car with/muffer/ 17's/intake/body kit/fire extinguisher/stick on graphics and so on...a buncha useless shit that doesn't win shows and usually looks cheap. if a body kit isn't functional and the person has one on a slow car and acts like its fast, you are a ricer, theres a ton on this forum

but...whats the problem, most flaunt there shit that they shouldn't be, they try and act like hot shit...i laugh at most, but when 50% of the people on the road down here r ricers, it makes me sick. thank god i'm leaving this sport compact crowd

I think, Fab, if you wanna have a muffler you should just wait till you an afford a cat-back. I mean, there's this guy that just started this week that has a liquid grey Focus where I work that has a full body kit and a fart can. I think it looks and sounds awful. But as long as a person can style with taste and not slap a bunch of stickers on their car and ride around with a unpainted body kit I don't care. It's just like Kickn said that 50% of people think that they have a body kit and 20 inch wheels and a huge spoiler that they are hot shit. There's no one around my area that has any taste.

I am with Hotfocus on this. It is your money. Some of us shoot off our mouths when all it comes down to is that we wouldn't do it to our cars. I have seen some awesome rice cars. Just not my style.
