Focus worth the money??

Hi,

I'm new to the site and wanted to ask for help regarding a very difficult decision I'm trying to make. I'm debating on whether I should by a 2006 ZX3 60k for $6,800. I have never owned a Focus and a lot of the people I speak with say to stay away because they are bad cars, don't have good engines. I have been doing research but can't really find anything. I know that with proper care a car can go a long way, not sure how a Focus drives after 100k. Sorry it's so long, any help is greatly appreciated.

Focus's are good cars and can last as long as you take care of them. Buying a used car may last, but it will depend on how well the previous owner took care of it. The one you mentioned, are you buying it from a third party or an actual car lot?

No reliability issues to worry about as long as you're buying a 2003 or newer. You will love it.

I bought my saleen with 61,000 for 7500 So id definitely try to get a lower price or maybe look at SVT's. They are good cars Ive only ever had basic problems with my car, the most expensive repair was i needed all my brakes replaced.

Yup. I've got a 2001 ZX3. My most expensive repair was a wheel bearing, and that was only expensive because I was too lazy to do it myself, so I took it in.

They are not at all expensive to fix, they're reliable, super safe, and they're fun. Most people just assume it's bad because it's a Focus, and they know nothing about them.

Thank you!

I really appreciate your feedback guys. I think I'm going to buy it. The car is from a third party and $6,200 is what we negotiated, I don't think he will go lower. But your feedback was really helpful, now I need to prove all these Focus haters wrong. Thanks again.

I dont think thats a bad price, especially if its mint. The 06+ foci were pretty solid also, really no major problems or recalls.

Let me add my $.02 too! My '04 SVT turned 209,000 on the way to work tonight, and all I've ever had to do was basic maintenance and wear items like brakes and clutch, etc. And I'm not all that easy on it either.

If you haven't done yet spend the $100 and have a real mechanic check it out. Also, go to a Ford/Mercury dealer with the car's VIN and ask for an Oasis report. This will show all the service history for the vehicle as well as any TSB's on the car in question. Tip the service advisor like $10 for this. Both of these are money well spent items that could potentially save you from major problems/surprises later.
