I'm going to be picking up a 2012 Focus SE hatch soon so I'll probably be having this discussion with the dealership finance guy. I'm just not sure at what price it's "worth it".

I know you asked about FMPP Plus (i.e., with PremiumCARE ESP) but here's a thread on FMPP on RFD: http://forums.redflagdeals.com/prepa...-worth-850826/

With the PremiumCARE, having warranty *after* the basic warranty expires sounds appealing.

If we're talking pre-paid maintenance, make sure you're buying a Ford plan, and not a dealership-sponsored one.

That way, if the inevitable happens and the dealership goes under, you have the option of going to any other dealer.

I'm a Ford Service Advisor and we really don't mind when a customer has these plans ... it actually pays the tech more time to do the same thing we normally do cash, since most times people ask or get a promotional package called "The Works".

And the car gets Ford oil and oil filter ... one of the best-quality filters on the market, and it's been tested.

Ford's newest V8's are very dependent on good oil filters that don't break down and send their cleaning media into the oil passages ... Ford has TSB's out to watch for aftermarket oil filters if an engine is making ticking sounds from the heads, louder on one side than the other usually ...

While that ^^^ may not apply to a Focus since we don't have V8's , I still only service my Focus at the dealership ... I don't get that much of a discount, but I know she's getting quality parts.

And with the 5/60 powertrain warranty, I don't want anything to jeopardize that ...

That's funny... because two dealers told me for months that the ticking noise is normal on my 07 Foci... then only last month I found out from a THIRD dealer that my Intake Manifold Runner Control Valves (Tumble Flaps) were bad and the ticking noise went away...

I told my dealer and they were like "Oh really? Well that's good then..." I was like OK... but it was normal and now its not really normal but it is normal?

Thank God I took it to a third dealer... too bad I couldn't have gotten the same reliable service from the 1st two...

I haven't seen any Focuses in our Service Dept for that noise or problem ... you may have gotten lucky with that one tech having seen it before and knew what to go after .... otherwise, all modern engines make ticking sounds ... "it's normal" :)

Could also be that the Valves they told you that they replaced may have been working totally OK just noisy ... usually Ford will have TSB's or Special Service Messages (SSM's) that will say that a particular noise won't affect durability or longevity ...
