2012 Ford Fiesta gets sport appearance package

Ford wants you to get personal with the 2012 Fiesta. Be it through custom exterior graphics or LED lighting, Ford offers something to make your Fiesta truly your own. Now, if you opt for the SEL or SES trims, you can also choose from a pair of new two-tone interior color schemes. The 2012 Fiesta can be outfitted with Oxford White or Race Red, both of which are paired with black.

Besides the interior style touches, the 2012 Ford Fiesta is now being offered with a sport appearance package. It includes blacked-out side mirrors, grille-surround, upper rear-hatch spoiler and a set of 16-inch polished alloy wheels. This isn't just for looks, though. When equipped with a manual transmission, the standard 4.07 gear ratio gets swapped out for a 4.25 final drive ratio, meaning off-the-line acceleration should prove to be a bit more brisk.

Check out the new interior options in the gallery below, and click past the jump to read the full press release.

Woohoo! Was kinda hoping this would involve a 2.0L engine or a Euro grille, but I guess it's better than nothing.

I like the white interior, the red's a little bright for me. All the exterior stuff looks great. Now need more power to go with the looks and the new gear ratio.

I like the LACK OF CHROME! Finally. I hated how in order to get any of the good options on this car you were forced to get chrome everywhere.

Agreed. I always liked the aluminum 16" wheels on the SES but hated the chrome LED "driving light" bezels. The the SE got rid of all the chrome but didn't have the nice SES wheels. Now you can get the best of both worlds and the Euro Spoiler Kit to boot!

Although I'm still confused about some of the items included in the package. It mentions the accents regarding the mirrors, but nothing about leather seats. I'd rather not pay extra for that two-tone leather interior. All the exterior stuff is fine.

It's a shame the Fiesta FRPP handling package isn't included either. It's odd how Ford doesn't even acknowledge its existence on their own website. I only heard about it through people who already bought their Fiesta through dealerships.

Posted via FF Mobile Drive ratios change for the manual trans car. But this looks good, like the new interiors and exterior packages.

Wow... and not in a good way... I've seen an interior just like this, at autozone.. in a 1995 honda civic...

Did they adjust the fifth gear transmission ratio to accomodate the steeper front cogs? otherwise you're looking at higher RPM's on the highway...

I used to own an 03 SVT with EAP, style wise, it was a little more subtle than this car but it stood out from other focii without being "ricey" this fiesta really looks ricey on the inside. Also i don't like the black mirrors, period.
Mechanically, one of my complaints with the SVT (and every economy car I've driven since) was RPM's on the highway, I felt like the SVT was turning too high in sixth gear (and other economy cars turn too high in 5th/6th gear), I mean yeah I didn't have to shift down to pass somebody, but fuel economy could have been better with a longer top gear, and really I don't mind shifting down to pass someone, thats why a transmission has multiple gears.
I think instead of the pretty interior crap and steeper cogs, they should have done something usefull, like a power adder, LSD, stiffer suspension, six speed manual, rear disc brakes etc.. I guess I was dissapointed when the description was appearance package and increased performance, I mean yeah steeper cogs do perform better 0-60, but the problem for me is when you take an economy car and make it less economical where it really shines (highway) for a marginal performance gain.

In all fairness it's labeled as a sport appearance package. Otherwise I completely agree with what's been said. A slightly larger displacement engine with direct injection could still offer the best of both worlds (fuel economy + performance) and give the term "sport" some real meaning. Swap in the base Mazda3's 2.0L engine and call it a day. For a car as small and light as the Fiesta, 148 hp is plenty to play with!

Europeans gets to enjoy the sexy Mountune Fiesta upgrade while keeping their factory warranty intact. Americans are stuck drooling over Ken Block's AWD 650 hp Fiesta, while FoMoCo decides it's better to release appearance kits that only make the car look faster instead. Sooo it's back to praying that an ST trim will appear within a year or two...

On a positive note you can actually get a stiffer suspension from Ford Racing Performance Parts (FRPP). It's not very well advertised by Ford but it definitely exists. It's listed as the Ford Racing Fiesta Handling Pack, and it costs around the same price as the SVT Suspension Kit that originally came out for the Focus. There's no reason why anyone with a Fiesta shouldn't buy this—I think that's a no brainer.

The rear disc brake upgrade is debatable. Even with stock rear drums the stopping distance is around 120 ft from 60-0 mph. This outperforms most cars in its class (and even above) with rear discs. But I guess if brake fade is a concern then you're right that some additional options would be nice. But for panic stops the Fiesta's stock brakes offer better than average results.
