New guy here! School me on the finer points of the Focus.

Hey Guys-

I'm new to this forum. I've surfed it a little and it looks good and informative.

I'm going to be in the market for a Focus soon.

I'm hoping that somebody can help me with the some of the finer points of the Focus. Like what is the difference between the SPI and the Duratec, what years have what engine? I'm familiar with the Zetec, as a couple of buddies have had ZX3's that have gone well over 200,000 miles, good runners.

Will suspension components from the ZX3/5 work on a sedan or wagon? Body parts interchange between the 3/5 and sedan/wagon (ex. bumper covers)?

How many miles is too many miles for a Focus? I'm comfortable with something around 120,000 miles.

The reason I'm asking all this is that currently my wife and I are putting on about 125 miles a day between us on our F-150 SuperCrew and Crown Vic Police Interceptor. The CV gets the best mileage and at $3.65 a gallon for gas, we're starting to the hurt a little bit. I think that a Focus would fit the bill perfectly.

We are looking for a sedan or possibly a wagon. It needs to be an auto, due to my wife not being able to drive a manual. :(

Any info or advice will be appreciated and welcomed.

Thanks-
Jon

The SPI was only offered in the sedan from '00-'04 (may have ended sooner). You should stay away from the SPI as it underpowered and has been know to have reliability issues. The Duratec came into being first as a 2.3 in some '03 and '04 hatches and then went to a 2.0 starting in all models in '05 (the ST focus was still a 2.3 Duratec)

Will suspension components from the ZX3/5 work on a sedan or wagon? Body parts interchange between the 3/5 and sedan/wagon (ex. bumper covers)?
sedan and hatch suspension is interchangable. The wagon had a different rear set up. The bumper covers are the same on all front ends but the rear varies between the hatch, sedan and wagon

There are people that have well over 120,000 miles. General maintainence can go a long ways.

I think that covered all of it. If I'm wrong some one will step up.

FYI, you can get an SPI wagon. You can't get an SPI ZX3 or ZX5, though.
