Another NOOB question on 2008

First let me say awesome site. I have been a member of fullsizebronco.com for over 6 years. I have found the site as an esential part of owning a bronco. I have owned 3 F150's, 1 1993 Ford explorer, and my beloved 1993 fullsize ford bronco. The explorer finally blew up on me last september (after about 300,000). I have been daily driving the bronco since. It has the 351W with a six inch lift and 36" tires. With the gas prices I'm getting about .50 cents per mile, or 80 dollars a week in gas.

I found a 2008 Ford Focus at carmax for 10,800. It is just what I was looking for. It has the 6 speed transmisson, manual windows (my explorer went through windows motors like crack), and it is the 2 door model.

Being the good consumer that I am I have researched the focus. I know about the tire/alignment problems and still plan on purchasing the car this weekend. I thought I would ask the experts for any more feedback before I pull the trigger.

thanks

its a 5 speed and youll love it!

FTR, i have never had a problem with alignments and excessive tire wear. i have 65,xxx miles on my car... still on original brakes.

my lifetime fuel economy average is 32.7MPG.

no mechanical problems besides a belt and tensioner set that wore out prematurely but was covered under warranty.

since u are getting a manual, keep an eye on your clutch-starter interlock switch located on the clitch pedal shaft. on early 08 models they break off but youll know when its about to happen, youll hear clicking noises when the pedal is depressed. ford will, to my understanding, replace it with a revised design peice thats more secure for free so just take it in. or rig it up so that it bypasses the switch altogether

I have an automatic but I love the 08 focus. Coming from a 69 lemans and 88 camry, it feels like I'm driving a spaceship O.o
On my old 08, which was an SE (15" alloys) and the non-pzev engine, I could get 38mpg at 75mph no problemo. Plus there are plenty of affordable aftermarket upgrades for this car that will help to satisfy the need for speed =D
