Toyota is one step closer to the production FT-86....

I think the basic design is fantastic. Some of the styling cue may be a bit too boy-racerish, but I doubt they all make it to the production version.

I see more than a hint of Lexus LFA. It is certainly more exciting to look at than any current model of Toyota.

Hmm, I wonder if they will rename it if it goes into production. Possibly bring back the Supra nameplate?

x2, but I think DarkKnight said it was probably going to be branded a Scion...I don't care what they brand it as personally, but Scions have stupid names. So I could see this actually being called something moronic like sC or something.

The Supra is a legendary name though, I don't know if Toyota would want to open that one up in case the FT86 fails to be mind-bendingly good.

Then they'd better make it mind-bendingly good.

As long as the accelerator doesn't get stuck under the floor mat, it'll be a hit!

Posted via FF Mobile Lol, yea word is they are going to brand it as a Scion...retarded. Just kill the brand and put time and money into toyota products. They have been so hell bent on fuel efficency that they have sucked out all the fun and soul. Now the prius actually has a soul, its not a track car soul, but its a soul. Also they are expanding the prius lineup into almost its own brand of cars. So maybe now toyota can bring back the fun. I agree they should keep it as a toyota and call it the supra or even the celica. Well see what happens, but production isnt supposed to start till 2012.

In similar news the Subaru version is said to have a boxer engine, but be rwd, not awd. Im sure there eill be plenty of complaints since here in the US all subbies are awd, but there is good news. The way the car is being set up is thanks to the boxer engine subaru is able to continue to put it low, reducing the center of gravity as they do in a lot of their cars. But because their is no awd setup with diffs and other stuff, they are able to put it rear of the axle, instead of infront, which is part of the reason for that understeer you get from cars like the wrx and sti. We all know closer to the middle means a more balanced setup. So this thing could actually turn into a damn fine sports car...as long as its got decent power, the chassie is stiff enough and they tune the suspension properly. Shouldnt be too hard considering both toyota and subarus racing heritage.

I think Toyota is finally taking some real steps forward in offering sportier cars. In the past I've always hated Toyota (and still do to some degree). And I think most of us already know that Scion is a poser brand that caters towards the ricer crowd. However.... I honestly have to say that they're actually improving their image slightly.

I checked out the 2011 Scion tC and overall it felt like a completely different beast than the previous generation. It's not the bloated chick car that it used to be. The steering actually feels nice, the seats are nicely bolstered, the engine pushes 180 horses under the hood, 18" alloy wheels, disc brakes all around, double wishbone rear suspension, reclining back seats with tons of leg/head room, and a panorama moon roof. The interior isn't the most luxurious, but given all the other standard features I think it's pretty damn good.

I think the FT-86 will definitely provide some good competition against the Hyundai Genesis. Toyota needs to get back into RWD cars badly, and this is just the right kind of car they need to step up their game. I'm just hoping they've finally learned their lesson about cutting corners...

The only reason I wanted a Subaru is for AWD...Complaint #1. lol Idk it might still be something worth looking at though.
