Question on EBAY Flip Keys

Okay, this question is for my buddy, who is too lazy to get an SN on here...
(But I'd like to know the answer too.)

Keys such as these:

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=for....c0.m270.l1313

I know a couple people have used these, is it as simple as buying one, taking it to the dealer to get cut and programmed? He has two keys already, but wants to rock a key like this. I did a couple searches on it and found nill, although I know there have been people who have done it.

Okay, found a couple threads about it, but it sounds like they had to work around PATS? Are there flip keys out there that are PATS compatible?

if its the one that looks like the mazda flip key (cant see the link im at work) and he has 2 keys then he can take it to home depot, get it cut, then follow the procedures to program the keyfob and then the pats system. its that easy.

I have that same key.

I bought it, took it to a local lock smith to have cut for $1. I didn't go to Home Depot cuz they fail at making keys every time I go.

I followed the procedure supplied with the key and programmed it successfully myself. (You need 2 working keys to do this)

Thanks guys!! misfire asked what year our cars were, does it matter 05-07? I wouldn't think so, his car looks identical to mine in every way besides front struts.

yes because they dont work on 00-04's. the pats transponder in the key is different (00-04 models PATS transponder looks like a grain of rice and the 05-11 looks like an actual "chip" or fragment of a motherboard) and isnt cross compatible is what was explained to me.
