Small update on Ford website

Just thought I'd let any prospective buyers know that Ford has updated their 2012 Ford Focus configurator. The old 2011 Focus can't even be configured anymore actually.

Mostly, it's just a little more streamlined, and the options are a little less ambiguous, with better pictures and a better interior view.

http://www.ford.com/cars/focus/

It also has the current fuel economy set as 24/35 mpg...

Also, they added a longer video of "Addictive Driving Dynamics", in the videos section, and at 1:47 long, it actually does an excellent job of going over the new features (not to mention it's just plain cool how it shows everything).

In particular, when it mentions the active grill shutter, it captions "Available on certain packages and trim levels...", so I'm hoping that means it will be included in multiple packages (like the sport package), and/or multiple trims (probably Titanium as well as the SE SFE).

Unhappy

Wow... I didn't even notice the fuel economy numbers.

Well, i'm still holding out hope, maybe those are placeholder numbers, since on the "Specs" page, on the "Engine" tab, the Fuel Economy stat is still "To come", when all of the other tabs on the Specs page have been updated... (stupid reason I know)

Also, I find it hard to believe that the EPA just rated the SFE package at 29/40, while the normal Focus somehow doesn't do nearly as well? I know the Fiesta's SFE package only adds 2 mpg to the highway, and I can't imagine the couple of aerodynamic tweaks made all of the numbers jump by 5 mpg (especially city mpg). Even the normal manual fiesta makes 28/37... Would the active shutter grill (the only difference in the focus SFE package) make THAT much of a difference?

Orr... maybe it's just because of the more stringent EPA standards now?

I don't know, can you tell how hard I'm trying to not believe it? haha. They're good numbers nonetheless, but c'mon, the city mpg being even lower than the current Focus? No bueno.

Posted via FF Mobile Isnt that pretty much what the 2011 is rated? Not bad when you consider it gained some power and some weight. Also im sure Ford doesnt want to bastardize Fiesta sales anymore with the coming of the focus, so maybe they purposely got the ratings a bit lower. Now, we all know epa estimates are iffy and many people get something entirely different. These days it seems to be higher. Also remeber the mpgs are going to be different across the line, the base S focus will weight less then the titanium. And the bigger wheels and the fatter tires of the titanium will change this figure too. Im not totally sure about all the details of EPA testing, but did Ford give them a titanium focus to test, or an S, or do they have to give them every model and then the EPA averages the numbers out?

I have no clue really how the EPA tests a car while taking into account all of its trim levels, but I'd like to know as well.

And I suppose you're right... also, if the new Focus lives up to that 0-60 time that car and driver posted (7.6 I believe), then I won't care at all about the unchanged fuel economy.

I guess if you compare it to the current Mazda 3, it's still an amazing car. More hp in the basic config, with more mpg and probably equal driving dynamics, so I probably have no room to complain I guess.

guys... the EPA hasnt rated the *regular* focus yet i thought???? they did rate the SFE focus at 28/40 but it makes no mention of the vehicles not equipped with the SFE package. i would expect those numbers to be higher than what my 3 year old car was rated when it was new; like around 27/36 or so...

The website should reflect the Press Release from the other day. I am sure that it will be updated.
