Posted via FF Mobile Well, it sounded like the transmissions clutch was worn out a bit, thats what they said. Also this is a preproduction model. Could be the tuning is off and maybe something is bad with the transmission, also this test car might of gone through tons of abuse. Could be a number of things wrong to effect mpg.

But that curb weight....ugh lol. I guess here in the US we just got to get used to it. The Mkii was the same. But, 0-60 times are as if the curb weight was not 3000lbs, 7.6...thats SVT territory, and Im sure when your driving it and tearing up twisties it does not feel like that much weight is being tossed around.

Unhappy

Yeeeaah... I'm not sure where those numbers came from. Up until now, every review I've read said they got around 30 mpg or so mixed, so that's quite a disparity.

I'm VERY curious to see the official EPA fuel economy numbers now, I wonder what's taking so long?

I'm sure that car has been flogged by auto journalists up to 3K and they did the same. If you are planning to buy this car I wouldn't worry about their mpg, c&d also got low mpg in their 2011 Elantra review and real world numbers seem fine so far. Nice 0-60 time

Yeah, that time threw me off too. Again, all the reviews so far have said to expect a little under 9.0 seconds. I wonder what the manual could get, when the dual-clutch is always described as "unenthusiastic"? Definitely okay with that number, but what's with the crazy differences from other previews this go-around?

also, the 2012 focus pre-production manual http://home.earthlink.net/~mchrisbro...ocusmanual.pdf puts the 5 door SE at 2889 lbs if that helps any! (last page)

If that's the 0-60 for the SEL, I can't wait to see the 0-60 with an extra 86 HP under the hood of the ST.

Sounds like the slipping transmission is the source of the problems.

Give 'em some time to iron out these issues and I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. A number of 2011 Fiesta owners are also reporting PowerShift problems too--you can view the reports at safercar.gov under the Vehicle Owners tab. Not just hard shifting (which is actually normal), but the transmission failing to shift at all. Every manufacturer has to start somewhere and Ford is no different. They're simply new to the dual clutch game.

I know quite a few people already placed a preorder on the 2012 Focus, and I don't mean to cause any panic here, but personally I'd hold off for another year or two for them to work these problems out. It's generally not a good idea to go with the first version of any consumer product (whether it's a new computer or a new car). Compare the reliability of the 2000 model year Focus versus the 2004. Same issue.

Hate to admit it but at 3000 pounds curb weight the 2012 Focus sounds like it's a bit of a porker for a compact car. My 2010 has curb weight of around 2700 pounds. Note to Ford:put the car on a diet!

sadly 3k lbs is right where the compact class is right now.

dont know why it seems like ford is trying to shoot the new auto in the foot with that terrible toggle shifting mode. oh well, manuals better anyway
