stuck shifter

Has anyone else had the trouble of their tranny cable detatching during hard shifting? This has happened 2 times with me both times i was shifting at around 6200 RPM and the shifter locked in place. It would only move from 3rd to 4th. The cable that detatched from the tranny was the lower one. The first time this happened I had it towed to Ford here in Guam. It took 7 days for them to get it in the shop to conduct a 15 minute repair. The second time this happened i fixed it myself, warranty be damned.

Ive never had that problem, but I have a huge issue with my focus not shifting at all when its cold outside. The shifter wont go into any gear, and barely comes out of gear, you have to yank it, and good luck getting it back into any other gear, you have to actually stop the car to get it to go back in first

Have you tried changing the transmission fluid? Will it shift without using the clutch (if you know how)?

did you use the recomended fluid? or did you go to a heavier weight? Use what is recomended if that isn't what is in it now.

rangebum make sure the cable is all the way onto the shifter, sometimes they appear to be on when in fact it can be popped on a little more

stuck shifter

i found the culprit. Apparently Ford thought it would be a good idea to put enough lube on the cable fasteners to greese all the bungholes of new orleans. I got to digging one night and found this to be the trouble. My cables had come off 2 times and since i had less than 500 miles on the car i let Ford take the liberty of fixing it. Once i found all the greese i whipped it off and snapped my cables back on and installed a steeda shorty shifter and haven't had any troubles since. I've even beat on it pretty hard to try to repeat the previous trouble. For all those that don't know the tranny cables are difficult to get to if you aren't gravitationally challenged like myself so i feel for the big handed youngans trying to squeeze between the bell housing and the firewall amungst the rats nest of vacume lines and wires. Thanks for the feed back from everyone else. As much as i hate to see misfortune fall on others I at least feel like perhaps there's not a rain cloud above my head alone.
