Got hit on the side - totaled?

So, my beloved Focus wagon got hit on the side. You guys think they can fix it (before it exceeds its value) or does it look totaled? The front and rear door are an easy fix, but the lower frame portion below the doors is what worries me. Its dented in about 3". There is also some slight creases inside the door jam, which I assume a body shop would just ignore if they repaired it.

I'm hoping its not totaled, I know its not a looker but its hard to find 5-speed Wagons and this one's served me well as a DD so far.

It won't be totaled out. And make sure you tell your insurance company that you want to shop around for the best repair shop. Check reviews, ask around and find the one that you feel the most comfortable dealing with.
Though it would be nice if they totaled it out. Then you could buy it back for very cheap and have lots of moolah left over to play with... ;-)

How many miles are on the vehicle?

Honestly I'd say with it being an '01 and the value being a little less due to it being a manual it could very well be totaled. I see older foci being totaled all the time as they really aren't worth the price to get fixed.

It has 95K on it. Its really not much damage, but when you look at the value of the car and the fact that the lower frame will need to be pulled back out I think they might total it. Not sure though, I'd rather them just fix it.

I'd guess totaled for the same reason Ken mentioned. My old Aerostar drove home, and was in great condition, but it was totaled due to age/mileage. The damage was really minor- busted blinker, grille, fender, and bumper cover.

Argue with them, and make sure the adjuster gives you a fair value. It is their job to pay you as little as you'll take. Play hardball until they give you what you need to get a new vehicle.

depends on the insurance company, if the frame is touched they will total it.

Agreed. Looks like there's some rocker panel damage there as well.

It's going to be totaled, I have the 2000 which is only a year off, Even at 95k they are going to total it, if you like it, let them total it, then buy it back and fix it yourself.

You can see if you look at the right side of the back door that it was pushed in far enough to be able to see inside the door jam, that's a new door, and a lot of body work maybe even a pull, which is going to cost more then the cars worth.

I'm a licensed auto damage appraiser. I totalled out my '03 ZTW wagon in October, and I don't think it was quite as bad as yours.
- Yes, it's a total loss.

It's gonna be totaled. I bet theres some frame damage there, and it would cost a lot to get that straightened.
