link to the top gear website where they review the new eco foci.
i found it interesting, plus its from top gear so while reading i had to read it in the voice of clarkson. with that bit of english sarcasm that's alway present. thought some fanatics on here might wanna check it out.

taken from teh article:
"But an awful lot of unnecessary detail is going on round the nose. Most of those grilles are blind, and the bonnet looks like it’s agape."
Yup and thats what turns me off...

"The new one is, as I said, a seriously good car and covers more bases. But sadly, one we really care about, the handling, isn’t quite so well taken care of."

I figured as much...

I love the front end of the base (non-ST) model! Not quite sure why they have a big problem with it. Way too many cars have huge obnoxious chrome grills and whatnot. This one that actually looks very clean. The only thing I'd tweak is maybe get rid of the stupid ridges on black trapezoidal insert where the front plate sits.

Sad to hear about the numbed steering feel. That's what I'm most afraid of. The way they tweak the electronic steering assist in cars can really make or break cars these days. Anyway I'll reserve judgement until I test drive one myself. If it's anything like the Fiesta it should be fine--which offers a weighted feel as you speed up.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned that this car has minivan style windshield wipers (also seen on the Civic) where both blades wipe from the center to the sides. You can see it in action at the end of the "Expert Craftsmanship" video link on Ford's website. It's not a dealbreaker by any means... I'm just not a fan of that. Reminds me of someone's arms going up and exclaiming "Hooray!!" Once you see it you can't unsee it.

Posted via FF Mobile As far as the handling goes, remeber there is a sport package for the focus, and that may delete any woes that you had. Remeber this car is for many markets, and they even have to please the people that want a soft quiet ride.

It's TopGear what do you expect them to say about Electric Steering? If they said it was great they would be snubbed and burned in hell by the so called real drivers of the world.

After 50 some years of reading car mag reviews I have come to the conclusion that the old time most read been around forever car mag reviews must stick to what there audiences have come to expect.

You think Car & Driver or Motor Trend is going to praise the Electric steering in the new Focus.......not a chance, they would both loose credibility with there fan base.

Today I read 5 or 6 new Focus reviews with the majority praising how well Ford dialed in the electric steering. No easy feet as I understand.

The popular car mag reviews are getting much too predictable and for me only educational as far as 0-60 and other factual specs. As far as objective/subjective issues its best to depend on your own experience.

So called professionals are too busy making a case of who is better then who, and will go to some extreme lengths to suit their biases.
It is 95% entertainment with 5% stating real facts in general

they may be off as far as exactly how the car handles and its dynamics and what the EPAS is like to operate, but i have little doubt that the suspension is squishier and that the overall package is a little less "focused" because it is a global car now to include the USA with a broader appeal to more markets and demographics. so that aspect of the article i agree with.
