Car platform - price!

I have a question for those who knows more about cars!

I understand the "platform" concept, all cars today (platform is used before but that's not the point of my question)
are made form platform which is made itself to provide random cars (for example focus and c-max).
Now the point of my question!
People from Ford, VAG etc. say : platform allow us to make better cars with less costs!
I get that but cars are still expensive

this is old Citroen C4 2004-2010

it has 1000 years old suspension, the whole car is poor made and etc.
this is new Citroen C4 2010-present

it has 100% same platform, engines like old one but it's better built

how same platform make car CHEAPER???
VW golf and Focus costs the same but they have new platforms and engines and are better built!
The new C4 should cost at least 10% less than Golf and Focus!

For example VOLVO

It has almost all engines and transmissions from ford, platforms from ford but costs a lot more????
I just don't get it!
You have BMW 3 and Volvo S60 which costs the same BUT
BMW has it's own platform, engines, transmisions while Volvo has everything from ford!!!

I just don't get it!

P.S. I really admire Ford people! Every generation of focus has new platform (C170,C1,C-global). You really pay for the car, you don't buy a badge or something you just buy the car.

I think only BMW and Merc make every new generation of car with new platform!

V8, 4.0 L, 420 hp, 6 speed manual, rear wheel drive, coupe, REDLINE AT 8400 rpm = 2007 BMW M3 E92 - new will be turbo, shame

Auto makers do the platform thing to reduce costs and simplify manufacturing. Another factor that affects cost is the cost-per-unit. Ford is probably able to spread the development and tooling costs for one platform over far more vehicles than Citroen. (One of the big reasons why Citroen joined up with Peugeot, et al...)
