A Ford Focus LX doesn't come with a 2.0l Zetec engine. Its supossed to have a 2.0 L CVH/SPI 110 hp 125 lb·ft, Standard in LX and SE model sedans through 2004.

well this is supposed to be a 1.6L with 89hp and saw it the other day and thought that someone has switched the engines, or it could be a case of someone has changed the cover of the engine

You could plug the VIN into a VIN decoder site http://www.decodethis.com/ and it should tell you what the car came with. If I remember correctly the engine code is the 8th character in the VIN. I've never used that site before and am too lazy to go out and check my VIN, but it should work. If it DOES have a Zetec but originally came with an SPI, you should count your stars, it's a vastly preferable engine. Does make you wonder why it was switched though. One other thing, I don't think any transmissions are interchangeable between the SPI and Zetec/Duratec, so there's that to wonder about too. Somebody else chime in about the transmission interchangeability if you can confirm or deny that.

Guys, take note...he's UK, not US. Don't think they had the SPI there.

It should have the 1.6L engine. But if you could provide pictures it would probably be easier to figure out which motor it is.
