Buying a Focus - Engine Help!

So, in may im due for a car upgrade.. iv told myself every year ill upgrade the car.. im young.. and what do all young people want.. more BHP!

Currently i own a VW but the premiums on insurance for them are far far to high.. they are costing me a fortune for the model i have (which isnt a big engined one) and as much as i love the vag group i'll be saying goodbye.
(This by no means makes me a chav..)

Currently i own a 1.4s Golf.. and the head gasket blew in the recent weather conditions (Oh joy).. Im going to get it repaired then keep it until may... Once a years driving experience has equated i will be P/X'ing my first love or selling it..

My mum has a 1.8 Ford Focuc - Zetec and my god i love it.. For a 1.8 i cannot believe how fast it is.. She stupidly got me insured for a local race day at a Air strip.. i managed to get it to 120mph, before i needed to break, it would of EASILY made 125-128mph as i still had 2k revs to pull threw, and it was still pulling and i couldnt believe the gear ratio's for a ford.. 3rd was 91mph.. and 4th top out about 109mph.. was really impressed!

So im looking into getting one, with a years driving experience i can get quoted in the 2.0l focus for roughly 130 a month which to me is a bargain as im paying 116 in my 1.4s golf now..

Heres my confusion a friend thinks im better off getting the 1.8 Zetec like my mums and not buying the 2.0l becuase it wont be faster he said somthing to do with the engines.. Basic sciences tells me he is wrong.. but he said the 1.8 engine is amazing in comparison to the 2l.. So im asking for anyones knowledge on this one..

The 1.8 BHP is 115.. Re-maps to 127BHP
The 2.0 BHP = 130 ..Re-maps to 147BHP (most local places) - Further afield i can go to the UK's best re-maps place and they can make near 160 BHP

So im a little confused, i personally believe the 2l will be by far the quicker focus to go for.. but as focus experts maybe you can enlighten me further with your inside knowledge of the car..

I look forward to reading your replies!
Lewis

NO, you are mistaken, his car is the UK version, not the US version.

I can't really advise you on this question, except that this is not the right forum. Technical Chat is for technical discussions relating to general maintenance, electrical issues, engine trouble, and recalls. Basically, we discuss repairs in this forum. Your question is better suited to the Ford Focus and General Car Chat forum.

Moved to General Car Chat.

I think 2.0 is faster
http://zinteractive-fordfocus.webs.c...%20engines.htm
but there's no much difference in the engines
1.8
2.0

try some UK focus forums, most members here are from US!

Bigger = better, or faster as in this case since it's in the same vehicle. Reliability is good for either. If I were you, I'd go drive some cars- hopefully they don't make you pay to test drive over there. That would help you determine if the highway feel of the car was the same.

You're on the right track to consider the 2.0L models if power potential is your major concern. You'll need to research aftermarket parts availability and tuners in the UK to work out your upgrade path, but that shouldn't be a problem, considering that the Focus sells so well in the UK.

Personally, I'd suggest that you consider the differences in taxation and insurance rates, and go with the biggest engine you can afford to support.
