central locking problem help please

hi all i am now the owner of a 2000 silver ford focus estate. my first car and i love it to bits focuses are the best looking cars around. the car is in very good condition and im happy with it for a first car but i need help and thought guys on this site may help.the problem is with the central locking it does not work at all on any door so have to lock and open the car with the key if anyone can help it would be cool a bit more about the problem first the key fob when you press it it seems to do nothing it wont open or lock any doors with the buttons on the fob i changed the battery and still nothing so it wont lock unlock the doors off the key fob. when i put the key in the drivers door or any door it does not open or lock any doors automaticly no sound or even effort to lock unlock the doors from the central locking i read up a bit online and checked the fuses in the fuse box was a mission to get to the fuse as was on the back of the fuse box but all the fuses to do with the central locking were fine and am now at a lose end as i dont no much about cars so i need help if anyone has any ideas what the problem may be would be very greatfull the car is a x reg 2000 model ford focus estate so to summerise the central locking wont work with the fob off the key or does not make any noise sound in the doors at all its just dead checked the fuses and still got the problem many thanks to anyone who can help
