The worst car ever.

My Focus is currently in the body shop, so I have a rental. Now when ever I get a rental car I don't have very high expectations, but it's generally fun to drive a different car for a bit. So let's get on with it. I'm currently in a Toyota Yaris sedan with about 23,000 miles and this is the most ridiculously terrible car I have ever driven. Let me first give you the good points, two to be exact. It gets great gas mileage. After four days, I'm averaging 38 mpg with a some what aggressive driving style. So that's good. The other good point, it has a gigantic trunk for a car it's size. It could easily handle a set of golf clubs, a cooler full of beer and still have room left over for a small sub box, but that and the gas mileage could never make up for whats wrong with this car. First off, this thing has no power. I'm talking you better be careful pulling into traffic lack of power. I once had a KIA Rondo for a rental and it had more pep than this POS. I have to say I don't think it's completely the fault of the 1.5l 106hp motor, though it doesn't help. Some of the blame falls on the lame ass four speed tranny. I don't know what the gear ratio is, but it's obvious that it's for fuel efficiency and not for oh, making the car safe to leave a parking lot with.

The exterior of the car is a matter of opinion, but i don't suggest you stare at it to long or you may vomit on your shoes. It really isn't relevant to why the car is so terrible ,but it doesn't help things.

Now let's move on to the interior. I don't know who designed the interior of this car, but they should be beat with a bat, that has nails in it, that rust, and then be denied a tetanus shot. Who in there right mind puts the instrument panel in the center of the dash of an everyday commuter car. One there is just no need to do this and two it's unsafe. Your making the driver avert his eyes from the road longer. A conventional instrument panel is positioned where it is so the driver can just cut his eyes down quickly and then back to the road. Now thanks to Toyota you have to look to your right to see how fast your going, how much gas you have, and anything else may need. The instrument cluster it's self is a disaster. All the gages are analogue except the fuel gage. It's part of the digital clock. Thats right the fuel gage is part of the digital clock. At night when your driving you can't see anything located on the steering because the controls have no lighting on them and you get no light from the instrument panel because it's two feet to the right of the steering wheel, so good luck setting the cruise control, turning on the wiper or adjusting the power mirrors at night when your unfamiliar with the car. I could go on an on, how the cup holder are located behind hidden panels on the corners of the dash or how easy it is to bump the shifter from drive to third by moving your knee, but there are just to many things to list.

All in all the Toyota Yaris is just one big Face Palm and is by far the worst car I have ever had the misfortune of driving. With the other cars in the same segment, I have no clue why anyone would choose a Yaris over a Honda Fit or Ford Fiesta.

They are good handling cars. But you are right VERY Slow..

'If this is an insurance thing, I tell them my car isnt a Focus, its an SVT and the Factory warranty gives me an upgraded car so They usually stick me in a higher class car.

I have a friend that used to own a Yaris, until I took Her for a spin in the ST. She now owns an SVT and regrets ever buying the Yaris as a first car..

i think right now, toyota has the worst looking/performing cars on the market period.
i dont know what that stupid center instrument panel thing is about either, but a few other companies do/did that too. like mini and saturn. not only is it dangerous, it looks f-ing retarded

^^Mini has the Tachometer where the speedo usually is. Kinda of like a race car. This is why they did that.

i had a scion xA with this same engine but the 5-speed manual transmission. it had a ton of pep because toyota decided to give it super short gearing and it was a BLAST to drive! of course at 60MPH the engine was at 3,000RPM but it never minded it at all... it always pulled low 40's on the highway.

and mini has a digital screen in the lower portion of the tach that displays the vehicle speed, so you dont really have to look at the speedo

I agree the Yaris is a turd but Toyota is not the ugliest right now.
I'd have to hand that to Nissan with their new Quest, Juke and Cube. Somewhat the Leaf and Versa

lol ok ok i forgot about nissan.

and thats nice that mini put a digital speedo in the center with the tach. but then why not just leave the analog speedo infront of the driver anyway, and rearrange the gauges to out more emphasis on the tach?

^^ they used to do that, they had a chrono(?) package on the last gen models that moved the speedo to the tach area and in the speedo area they put oil psi and some other aux gauges and dummy lights.
