Pick Your Poison - Focus Buying

Around Nine months ago, I was looking for my 1st car. However, I needed a car right now, and I didn't have "focus money" so I settled for the next best thing: A Neon.

Granted my Neon is (Currently) running fine, I need something that has more substance, I need a focus. I test drove an 01' ZX3 ATX (that was HILARIOUSLY overpriced) and I fell in love....but not with the price.

I'm trying to stay away from SPI's, but that's hard.

I've found a few local (ish) Focii that i'm interested in:

Been sitting awhile, think I can talk him down to 2K?
http://www.northcoastnissan.com/Vehi...ails/834415783

Awesome deal! However, the furthest away, potental rust bucket, SPI possible
http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/2095074604.html

Salvage title bothers me
http://columbus.craigslist.org/ctd/2097634799.html

SPI
http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/2095222652.html

.....or should I wait until I find an MTX Focus at my local auction(s)?

I'd wait for a manual focus, makes a big difference.

Agreed and don't bother with an SPI.

All of those links are Manual Focuses.

The one I test drove was an ATX, and it was an awesome car, but it was a bit of a dog.

Top one. Walk in with two grand cash and I bet you leave with a new car. Definitely stay wayyyyy away from the SPI. Have my brother's in the garage with the engine out right now due to dropped valve seat. Only has 116k miles too.

I would try for the top one for two grand. Tell them $2,000 is all you have to spend and I am sure they will take it. Also to Focus Fanatics. And good luck on your new ride.

agree'd. my brother works in a slavage yard and he wasnt a fan when i got my focus. he thought i had the SOHC. he says for every zetech/ duratech tht comes to salvage theres atleast 7 or 8 of the SOHC motors. and one thing i noticed with my own eyes were the extensive wear around the piston rings. chances are not ALL of those motors were driven hard so that might be something you wanna consider

Well that's another thing that makes me mad about it. The thing has the original hone marks in the cylinder and no sludge whatsoever. The thing was never beat on or anything and always taken care of. A car should last more than 116k miles. Ford really made me mad on that one.

If you can, after buying the car do a little overhaul of the basics:

Oil
Trans Fluid
Brakes
Brake lines
Rotors
Coolant
Battery
Spark plugs & wires
Gaskets
Swaybar endlinks
Power steering fluid

It all depends on how much money you will have after and what you want to do.

Just my .02
