Question Newbie considering '01 Focus

Hi there! I'm a newbie to this forum and a newbie to Fords in general. Looking into buying a used 2001 Focus with 109,000 miles. I've been browsing this site and haven't seen anyone who has more than 150,000 miles on their Focus. Can you get 175 - 200k miles out of a Focus?? What kind of issues might I expect?

My last car was a 2002 Honda Civic. I put 125,000 miles on it and never had to do anything except routine maintenance... though it did need new shocks when it was totaled in an accident a month ago. I like the Focus because it's sporty, fun to drive, good gas mileage... and a lot more affordable than the Civic. But I have to admit I'm a little concerned about the reliability, especially since I'm a girl who knows *nothing* about car repair. If anything goes wrong, I have to take it to a mechanic.

Advice? Suggestions? Thanks!!

There are a number of high mileage focus out there. Which engine does the car have, the SPI or the DOHC? the SPI's are notorious for dropping valves, so I would defiantly lean away from that engine.

Thanks! I don't know which engine it has, but I'll definitely find out.

Posted via FF Mobile Stay away from the SPI engine, it wont make it to that high of mileage without a few rebuilds. If its an lx sedan it has it and if its a se sedan it most likely does but may not. What is your price range by the way?
