road trip checks?

hey guys! so i've got an 06 ford focus with about 58k miles on it, and i'm about to go on a five hour drive to las vegas (from san diego).. just wanted to double check if there was anything other than oil i should be worried about checking before the trip.

i know nothing about cars, so feedback would be much appreciated. thanks in advance!

I don't check anything before long trips. Unless your car is leaking something, there's really no reason to in my eyes.

^^This and specifically tire pressure in the spare. If you haven't been having issues already there shouldn't be much concern.

I'm going to be traveling 12+ hours in January and will be doing the same thing.

Check (I can be a lil overboard, but it doesn't hurt to take 5 extra mins):
Coolant
Oil
Tire tread & pressure
Brakes
Wipers
Wiper fluid
spare basic tools (incase of a breakdown)
Battery
Transmission fluid
Air filter

Posted via FF MobileYup - std. full check of normal maint. items is all that`s required, IF there aren`t any "deferred maint." items you know about! When possible, I keep everything up to date, so hopping in for a cross country trip would require no extra checks. Since that isn`t always practical, there may be a list of things that need attention in the future, anything from when the next oil change is due to how low the tire tread is getting. Do anything from that list that won`t outlast the planned trip, and you`re good to go.....

Im about to travel from Toronto area to my parents place in Naples Flo-rida,

With my 07 that logs about 600 miles a week. And I don't really planing on doing anything, except maybe switching back to my all seasons for the drive down.

Only because I'm all ways doing something to the car. As long as its properly maintained, should be nothing to worry about.
