Fords Mark Fields Q/A new Focus

I have never cared for Mr.Fields to say the least and his latest blunder in this youtube Q/A/ session does not help his case.

He is asked why the LED running lights offered on the Euro spec Focus did not make it to the North American Focus feature bin?

I could not believe he pulled the old excuse and blame the USA regulations

I guess he never seen the old Saabs or the current Audi's with this against the law feature running around America highways and biways.

Or could there be such a law but only enforced on C size vehicles or American assembled vehicles?

Can't be C segment restricted seeing that Audi USA offers these on the 2011 A3

He blinks a lot during the first one- maybe the lights were bright there- LOL.

I'm sure plenty of people will be purchasing LED kits for their NA Focis. Anyway, situation normal- US= not having a "global" Focus. I'm upset that the interviewer didn't ask why the Duratorq engine was not available in the US in the Focus or Transit Connect, and if Ford planned to pursue diesel-electric hybrids to out pace fuel economy of Atkinson gas-electric hybrids. I'd like to see him crawfish out of that one. When is the American public going to gain benefits from their investment in the PNGV?

Finally, is Ford ever going to take a chance on the markets or just tag along behind everyone else? In closing, will the 2.0 Ecoboost engine compete favorably with Hyundai's 270 hp turbo 2.0?

I don't really think it's the regulations. It's probably the fact that the feature isn't on any of their other models in the US. None of their cars higher in the lineup offer it. It's a way of keeping things consistant. I would not be surprised if Ford is keeping that for future Lincoln vehicles to give them that extra bit that will seperate the two brands. If they do end up offering a Focus based compact in Lincoln's lineup then I'm sure it will have the LED brow and HIDs.

It's simple... decontenting. Every other manufacturer is doing it. On the plus side the 2012 Focus will probably be more expensive in Europe too. I've never been a fan of the LED eyebrow look, so I'm not too devastated by that decision. I'm just surprised nobody asked about a 3-door model. :-/
