Toyota giving up in the Compact segment.

Seems like Toyota is giving up in the C segment....thats what Im assuming the "best", "most fuel efficient", "safest", "most innovative", automaker is doing, because thats what this 2011 Corolla tells me.

link

The Cruze is a better car, the Elantra wrecks it, and....fat chance of even coming close to the new Focus.

I don't know if Toyota has "given up" so much as they have allowed themselves to go stale. I'm going to guess within a few years some new upper management will topple the current regime and "revive" the brand. Its the same buzz words we all know in love in the automotive world.

I'd agree with Shamrocks statement. We can safely bet that Toyota will pretty much be around for the rest of our lives, and you can also be sure they aware of their "appliance" image right now. For some weird Japanese reason, they've been happy with that image for most of the last decade, but their will be new people in charge at some point and they can't be any stupider than the current bosses. They will probably make some exciting cars again.

In other news, the Prius is completely spanked by the Volt. Down with the Prius.

Their sales have been pretty strong last 6-8 years and they have clearly gone with the "if it isnt broke dont fix it" mentality. I am driving a Camry rental right now while my Focus is being turbo'd. Its a 2010 LE with the base engine and I think its quite nice although not very sexy looking. Whisper quiet engine, comfortable, pretty quality interior and even the base engine with the AT has plenty of get up. Whats not to like?

Posted via FF Mobile Whats not to like...its unispiring...well everything, exterior, interior, drive...everything. It is the total opposite of what a car is and once was. Cars were these things that people expected to be stylish, exciting, status symbols etc etc. I know that some of that has changed bc now like everyone has a car, but automakers should still make products based on the original principles.

The prius is going to be spanked even more when the Focus electric comes out with its 100 mile range and inexpensive price. Itll probably be the same price as a prius.

The current Toyota lineup fits perfectly the "Cubicle Dweller" segment. They are appliances, used to serve a purpose, like making coffee or toast. Even drones need to get from home to work and back, lol.

Posted via FF Mobile Unfortunatly when people use appliances more accidents happen. These drones get distracted easily and forget what kind of killing machine they are actually driving and what the driving experience actually is....they make the roads more hazardous imo. Camrys and the like should have the highest insurance rates ever. If you wanna be a drone...take the bus.

I couldn't agree more. As a Chauffeur, I deal with these types on a daily basis, and have become quite adept at spotting them from a good distance off, lol. I am of a belief that rush hour traffic is caused solely because of these drones, who are absolutely terrified of the whole driving experience, feel the need to do exactly one quarter of the posted speed limit in hopes of making back to the 'Burbs before total panic kicks in. Not always in time sadly, hence the wrecks.

My feeling is, this will not change, short of cars being outlawed. That said, I sure hope Toyota gets some top safety goodies in place, to keep the drones moving....sorta.
