if a 4.6 V-8 can be done, I am sure with enough talent, a big enough hammer, and a welder it could be done. The electronics would be the hardest part.

Does the 4x4 escape have a full limited slip drivetrain though? I know with my 03 sport-trac with 4x4 option, you can only drive on frictionless surfaces (dirt, ice, snow, water). Because if you turn, the front wheels are fully locked and will not slip, therefore your front axle will end up getting burnt out if you do constant turns with it on with no slippage for the inside tire. Which kinda defeats the purpose of awd in a focus unless you were going to do straight line racing. And if you were going to straight line race a focus, a 30psi turbo would do a better job than a full driveline conversion, yub.

I remember something like this a couple of years ago. Not sure if its the best transmissnion choice, like stated above.

Depends. How good are you at modifying?

Keep in mind the Escape is built on a Mazda 626 platform. The fOCUS is built on it's very own platform. In other words, nothing from the Escape is going to fit without a real big hammer.

Going waaaaay back in time, once upon a time Car&Driver took a CR-X (first body style as I recall, so, this must have been like late 80's) then they took a SECOND CR-X driveline and put it in the rear - voila, 4WD and exactly double the HP too. I guess they could have done 4W steer too, but as I recall they did not go that far. Oh... you want to use ATX so synchronization is not such a big issue.

Doing that to a fOCUS would probably be just about as complex as force-fitting an Escape driveline.

jackson racing did an escape drivetrain into a focus zx3, making it all wheel drive. it was a sangria red zx3, with yellow graphics on it. was on the cover of sport compact car a few years back. saw it up in pa at maple grove dragway a few years back. very interesting. had to throw a fuel cell in there as the oem tank was kinda in the way of everything. lol
