2003 SPI: Tapping on Warm Starts

I just bought (this past week) a 2003 Focus with the 2.0 SPI engine (manual trans). Twice now, I have noticed a tapping (almost sounds like a tap/puff kind of noise) that seems to originate from the engine on a warm start. The noise goes away with the slightest increase in idle, but it *does* sound ugly when it happens. I haven't noticed it at all when the car starts from cold, and I'm assuming that may be because the initial idle speed is so much higher. I figure taking it to the dealer won't do much good until it happens with some consistency, if it ever does. Has anyone experienced such a thing? Any likely suspects? Thanks, and oh yes, Hello to everyone. This is my first post. :)

well welcome to the board :) actually I have no idea what it could be...my friend had that happen to his caddy but it was the fuel pump...then his head gasklets went out...obviously this isn't u'r prob cause the pump shouldn't go out on a new car :) (his has 90000) I really have no idea...if u do bring it to the dealer though and it happens when u bring it to em they might have had others with the same prob so they might know whats wrong...

I will bet it is the fuel injectors making the noise. And it is normal

Thanks very much to both of you for the replies. The fuel injectors never occured to me, but I guess it makes sense. I'm just surprised that the noise sounds mechanical in nature. Unless it ever becomes more pronounced, it'll be hard to "catch" it happening. Thanks again.
