Tesla’s 244-mile Range: What Up With Dat?

Two hundred forty-four miles. That is what Tesla Motors claims is the range of its Lotus-derived Roadster. I found out the hard way that the claim is slightly optimistic. My plan was to head to a birthday party in Saginaw, Michigan, and return the same night in time on one charge. From our office in [...]No related posts.

Guess he didn't see the YMMV in fine print.

My brother is getting one of these, I'll send him the C&D link. Thanks!

I don't know. I'd think that would be a bad trade there! I can get up 390 miles on a tankful of the dogwater that passes for gasoline here(and I paid 1/8 of the Tesla's price). $130K equals a mortgage for some folks!LOL

I'm not surprised about the problems with the cars range, the Tesla seems to have had problems with just about everything else. If you have the money and only use it for around town, I'm sure it's a blast to drive, but articles like this aren't doing the electric car biz any favors. I remember a top-gear episode where the car broke down like three times.

The Tesla's real world driving range being much lower than what's stated in the sales pitch has been a well documented issue for quite a while now, closer to about 150 miles per charge. That's still plenty for most daily commutes, but electric cars are poor choices for long road trips because the only charging station between A and B is often your house

As for his complaints, hell I'd be complaining if I paid $130K for a car that doesn't get anywhere near the performance I expected to pay for, while guys in Elises who paid 1/3 of what I paid are driving past me around the bends and don't have to worry about the range of their vehicle.

I don't know about the Roadster, but the Tesla S looks amazing. I'd get one in a second if I had the money for it.

for a 130k you should be able to go waaaay more than that... i rather to have a nicer jaguar that can make 400 miles in 1 tank, and i dont have to seat begin a SUV to cut air, cmon, sports car(electric or not electric) should not be doing that, what the point of having the freakyn car then"??... electric... go buy a old beatle and put a ton of batteries on it and it will run the same way for a 10th of that price.
