Another Toyota recall

First the floormats...

Then the frame problems...

Now sticking throttles (2.3 million vehicles potentially affected):

ok toyota u lost me. the throttles may beome stuck when the components are "worn"?????????????? umm, all of the vehicles listed are not 1995's, 1992's, or even early 2000's. they are vehicles that have been produced well within 5 years. how does the electronically actuated throttle become that worn, to the point its sticking, in 3 short years??? toyota, just admit you used inferior parts/designs and make good on your part by fixing the vehicles. im tired of reading this "well, it could be this or it could be that... but the bottom line is we arent at fault and dont point fingers at us" bulls**t.

END RANT

Yet another reason for me to never own a toyota. I used to want a tacoma, but the bloated price on a used one made me think otherwise. Then my neighbor got one with 65k miles and a week later the motor blew up...

toyota would say "the reason his motor and other tacomas motor blew up was because the floor mats were too heavy, thus causing a lot of engine load which caused the motor to explode. it is not the fault of toyota motor corp that this happened however so dont blame us. to make good on our part however, we are going to replace his existing floor mats with the paper ones you get from oil change businesses with the printed shoe prints on them but we cannot in good favor replace the motor since it wasnt our fault at all that it blew up. maybe purchasing a yaris in the future would help, this vehicle has no floor mats unless you buy them!"

Its definitely another significant mistake they've made.

But to suggest they are going to suddenly fail or leave the industry, isn't going to happen.

Besides what is an "American" car really ? You drive a car whose design originated in Europe made from globally sourced parts many of which come from the same vendors Toyota uses. Most US toyotas are built in plants based in the USA...

I'm glad some of the undeserved mystique has come off Toyota. But by the same token I want them (and expect them) to be a strong competitor for Ford et al. Its only through vigorous competition that we'll get better vehicles.
