PATS question

How do I know if I have it? I've had this 2004 LX since July and the ignition lock cylinder froze up on me the other day. I can get it to turn if I give it a good hit with my mag-lite. So I got a new cylinder but the instructions say you need a scan tool to program the key for the anti-theft system but I am not sure that I have it as its a Base model LX with no options really at all. It has a blinking red light on the dash but I think its just for show. Need to get this replaced asap. Seems pretty simple to replace the cylinder via the instructions I read but we shall see.

As far as the pats, it's on all focus models. can you start the car the way it is now? check and see if the ford dealer can key a new cylinder to your existing key. if not, replace the cylinder yourself and have it taken to the dealer to reprogram. or you may be able to tape the existing key right next to the cylinder and start it with the new one that way so you can get ti to the dealer.
in the meantime, quit beating it before it totally locks up and get some graphite lube or wd40 and spray in it to help loosen things up.

ps, that red blinking light above the radio is part of the pats deterent.

All Focus' have PATS, even my LX has it. To program the new key you need your two original keys. Put the first key in the ignition and turn it to ON (don't start the engine though), wait until the red LED light an the dash goes out then turn off and remove the key. Within 10 seconds put in your second key and turn it to ON (again without turning on the engine) wait until the red light turns off and then turn it off. Now put the brand new key in turn to the ON position, then off. The new key should be programmed.

I only have 1 key for the car. I'll take it to Ford in town and see what they say.

I just talked to them on the phone and they told me I can just replace the cylinder and use the new key. I think I'll take it down there anyways.

Here is what I did when that happened. I got the ignition loose, then removed it, and pulled all the pins out. Then I could drive the car without worry until I had the ignition re-keyed.
