Need new mirror (glass only) for SVTF - advice?

I've got an SVTF with the power/heated side mirrors. Some fine anonymous driver clipped my driver's side mirror with their vehicle while my car was parked on the street.
Anyway, the mirror housing is intact, but the mirror glass is cracked. Have any of you done a glass-only replacement on a SVT side mirror? If so, can you clue me in on how to do it? I've found an eBay seller who sells the mirror glass, but I don't want to make the purchase if the retrofit can't be done.
Not sure how you remove the mirror glass section of the mirror, and I haven't gone into the housing to check out the power/heat wires. Figured I woudln't mess around with it until I got some input from others who have been there/done that.

I'm grateful for any advice you might have.

I lived in Chi for two years, you have to fold that mirror in!

Glass shop, don't get that crap that's sold OTC at the parts stores.

Depending on how friendly your local junkyards are, you might be able to get an entire mirror for what you'd pay a glass shop for a replacement. I'd shop around and explore my options.

I didn't think Chicago traffic moved fast enough until after 7pm for people to make stupid mistakes

The problem in Chicago is the rediculous street parking. People hall but and just hit people and never stop. I saw it bad last winter when I was there. Cars side swiped everywhere.

Yep, casual damage to people's cars is a fact of life in the Windy City. And nobody wants to stop and check out the damage they caused, or leave a note, because then it might cost THEM money, instead of me. And winters are especially bad.
Chicago is a very ethnically-diverse city. So there's a lot of drivers here who probably didn't start out by taking Drivers Ed when they were fifteen. Lotta people come live here who have never driven in a Chicago winter; they're like unguided missiles. Makes for a unique and exciting driving experience!

Lucky we didn't get the 2016 Olympics; I'm not sure whether Chicago could handle any more incompetent drivers.

Don't mean to sound sour; this is a great city to live in.

You're right, kylesvt720, I shoulda folded that mirror in. I usually do, just forgot this one time. It's like the ONE TIME you get on your motorcycle and decide not to wear a helmet.....

Junkyard is a last-ditch option, since I've got a SVT (painted mirror housings) and I'd either have to get REAL lucky with the color of the replacement housing, or I'd have to get the junkyard part sprayed ($$).

Anybody know how to remove the mirror glass insert from the side mirror housing?

I changed the glass only on my brother's contour. We bought just the glass part on ebay. Fitment was great. The only hard part was taking the old glass off. It was on the double sided tape.

So, BeeFzX3, the mirror glass was just attached to some sort of backplate with double-stick tape?

Check eBay. I've been on recently and I've seen many heated glass mirror elements.
