How did you get into cars?

Just wondering how you got into cars. For me it was my father and both my uncles. Ive always been around them sense I was a kid and remember holding my first steering wheel at 5yrs old. Both my uncles also argued at family gatherings on what cars too buy and what they like/disliked about them. My father is the main reason why Im into them. Hes had about 40 and now Im on my 5th lol.

Watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off when I was a kid, and was instantly hooked on the 250GT California. My parents went out and bought me a little book on Ferrari and thats all she wrote! Been hooked on all kinds of cars ever since.

I had a giant pile of Car & Driver magazines that our minister of music from church gave me when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I read every word and for years could tell you any spec about any car. Then I got a '79 Mercury Capri 5.0 with over 400 whp when I was 16 years old and was totally hooked. I never did wreck the Capri either, in case you wondered. I've never had a car wreck in the 20 years I've been driving. *looks for wood to knock on*

My uncle had a Honda del sol when I was growing up and I thought it was the . Only got to ride in it a handful of times but I loved it (now I know better!)

No one else in my family really cares about cars. I had the first moderately performance "car" my family has had. I had a bunch of problems with it, fixed those, had more problem, fixed those, bought some upgrades, got addicted to the "whoosh" of the cold ait intake coupled with the turbo.

Just the beginning of the story I'm sure!

Awesome thread.

My dad really tried to get me into cars when i was a kid, but i was more into the digital side of hotrodding (Building Holy-Crap-Shut-Down-A-Power-Grid Computers).

When i actually got a relatively problem-prone car to drive to work in, i fell in love with doing my own auto work, and it kinda grew from there.

Growing up, my neighbor was a juvenile in his 40's (not that I'm not). Everything Chevy. He always had a new hot rod project he was working on. Once he brought in a corvette and I sat in it. That was it, I've loved the corvette ever since. Once the kids are grown, I'll get one. It just doesn't make sense right now.
