What's the most sought after Focus?

I'm assuming that an SVT of some body and year is the most desirable Focus. I'm about to start looking for a project car and would like some input from people who have seen them all and heard all about performance and upkeep.

I plan on going N/A, maybe even nasty with a Cosworth engine or something. I don't know yet. Thanks for the help!

The most sought after focus would be the RS Focus .... but here in the states, it's kind of a toss up for a SVT or the 2.3 Duratec Engine Focuses.

SVT for styling, handling and overall package.

2.3D for it's great response to engine mods.

And if you find a cossie engine ... I would look for a rebuilt Escort Cossie engine ... if you have the money.

Good luck with you decision.

If you want something EXTREMELY rare, that would make an awesome project car, try looking for an 00-04 2.3 5 speed Wagon.

Here in the States it would be the SVT. There are build quantities for each type if you want to break it down further. I believe the rarest was the black 5 door with the blue cloth inserts? But overall the most sought after Focus is the current RS.

Thought you guys might find this amusing, as I did. Quote from Edmunds:

"Vehicle
2004 Ford Focus SVT 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl 6M)

Review
I've owned my SVT Focus for about 5 to 6 months now and I love it. I get many compliments around the city when I ride. I've taken it to the autocross about 3 times and always finish better than 5th place. This car is a great accomplishment for the SVT team.

Favorite Features
6 spd. manual transmissiom, great suspension and brakes. Engine is the strongest 4cyl. ford has ever built and 2nd strongest made (second to the lancer evo.)

Suggested Improvements
Cold air intake, SCT chip, new cams, nitrous oxide."

What's funny is that I have never seen a person talk about mods like this. Normally everyone complains about the armrest, dial placement, etc. I thought it was funny how the person was only worried about how HE could make it better.

Was the revised suspension in 2004 a good thing, or not?

I wouldnt mess with the cams nor put nitrous in the SVT. There is no armrest to speak of (maybe thats what theyre complaining about) and a CAI is nice, but risky. I think the SVT is set up just about perfectly from factory (thats why I bought it) but could benefit from a freer flowing filter, and a tune. Some people opt to go all crazy with the suspension, but I find it near perfect in stock trim.

The last sentences are mine. What I was saying is that "suggested improvements" is a section where the owner makes comments about how Ford could improve the car. But this guy is so into his SVT he goes into how you should mod it. I thought that was funny.

You are right, a 00-02 2.3 wagon would be EXTREMELY rare...only because the 2.3 5 speed wagon was only available in 03-04 in the green states as a pzev engine.
