Ugh..... Why?

Well, as some of you may know, most of you probably won't, I'm 17 years old, so I don't technically own my focus, my dad can use it for whatever he wants, he bought it for me. But while my mom has been out in Chicago for the past five days he has used it to go pick up a ton of things, recently today he needed me to come along to help pick up a fire pit to put down by our pool. Well, while we were loading the pit into the hatch, he lets the leg ride along my bumper, and next thing you know, there's a large 7 inch scratch on my bumper

Plus, I think I may have to be the one to pay for it, since he thinks it was there already, which is a problem because I'm only 17, just got laid off from my job, so as you can imagine, I'm not exactly rolling in money. I don't know what I'm going to do... Hopefully I'll convince him to pay for repairs.

He wouldn't let me do that, he wants the car to be the "family car." That way he can use it when he doesn't wanna use his car, and my siblings can use it (none of them are even close to getting their license though.) I don't mind it, that way I get a free car since he doesn't use it that often, but because he owns it things like this happen...

haha reall bummer man, sorry to hear about the scratch... I had a focus that my parents bought (salvage title not much) but when It got passed down to me, it had some serious scrapes and everyone I met thought that I did them, really hurt the perfect record **knocks on wood** haha but SO glad when I got the new focus, yes my parents helped me, but my dad told me it's YOUR car. **happiest day of my life**

haha i got so into my story I forgot what i was gonna say... but don't blow your savings modding a family car!!! there are a lot of fun things you can do for cheap, there is like a under 50 dollar mod thread somewhere around here... anyone know where that is??

That would be really frustrating lol.

Good luck with the repair.

Dude, one of the things that you will learn from this, and your dad knows this(trust me), is that when you get your own without his name on it you will appreciate it even more. I went all through this kind of thing when I was a kid, except I didn't get a car even half as cool as a Focus worth crying over a scratch. Just be glad he trusts you enough to give you rights to the car and move on. If it really bothers you, fix it yourself and he will stop abusing it. Trust me on this. He'll see that the scratch really bothers you and see how much you appreciate what he has given you. I suspect he'll be proud of your appreciation of his generosity and be much more careful. However, he may have bought the car specifically to abuse( i have one myself ). No disrespect, but the cars our parents buy us are expected to be destroyed. Prove him wrong and he'll stop doing that stuff. You sound like a good kid, good luck to you and remember to appreciate what your dad does for you first and then deal with the rest.
