Our Cruisers: 2004 Pontiac GTO

While not all of us at Car and Driver have our own personal cruisers, our love for cool cars sometimes transcends generations. Case in point: my father’s 2004 Pontiac GTO project car, which recently made the pilgrimage to C/D HQ for some showboating and to have a couple finishing touches added. Introduced in the U.S. for [...] No related posts.

Its a great car...very under appreciated if you ask me. Who cares if its not super retro looking, it was a great car for the money, fast..especially the LS2 and it was comfortable. Also, cheap on the insurance, for some reason its considered a family car. The G8 is a great car too, even better then the GTO, and now it comes with 4 doors.

Not a lie about the insurance either. A 5.7 costs the same as my 09 focus, and a 6.0 is $60 more. I want one soooo bad!!!

Interesting that the author of that apparently bought an SVT Focus around the time his dad bought a GTO.

'Tis true about the insurance, it is cheaper to insure than my Focus (at least until my insurance company finds out about the speeding ticket, bleh). Even the "slow" 2004 A4 that I have is still a total freaking blast to drive, this car was not given the due here it deserved because it got saddled with a legacy name.

Have liked those since they came out. Would be happy with a 5.7l but a 6.0l would be nicer.
