educate me, guys :)

Hey guys. I'm in the market for a focus with a 5 speed or an SVT. Now, what reliability problems are there with the different focuses? I see that the Duratec is a popular engine to get, is that true? What should I avoid? I'm searching for an SVT in the 4,500 range, so I'm going higher mileage. Anything in particular to look for in the higher mileage focuses?

make sure the timing belt has been changed on any car w/ about 90k or more. Bring along a compression tester, see if all cylinders are still good. If ur looking for an SVT, make sure the clutch has been changed cause they have a tendancy to go out. both zetec and duratec motors are good motors. zetec motors may have a few more mods out, but thats debatable. The duratec can make more HP NA, but there are more parts available for the zetec for FI. so it depends on what you want if you want to mod. But both choices are good, neither have any major problems at all!!

One big advantage for the Duratec over the Zetec; the Duratec has a timing chain, the Zetec has a timing belt. I agree with mlbbaseball, both are good motors.

Due to their pedigree, I would lean more towards an SVT...but that also depends on what sort of deal comes across your path.
